Exciting European Stayer for Te Akau

David writes:

Earlier this year, Karyn and I decided to purchase a European stayer with the view to running him in the lucrative staying races in both New Zealand and Australia.

With events such as the Group 1 Sydney, Caulfield and Melbourne Cups now boasting such high levels of prize money, our aim was to purchase a horse of the calibre to contest these races.

Therefore approximately three months ago, I approached Paul Moroney and Hubie de Burgh, two of the best judges in the world, especially of European form.

Paul and I have had many conversations since that time and, in the last week, on Paul's recommendation, we purchased a stayer from Andrew Balding's Newmarket stable.

This exciting stayer is called "Caliburn" and is a four year old son of Camelot out of the stakes' winning High Chaparral mare Enchanted Evening.

Paul Moroney said: "Caliburn fills the eye from his intelligent, quality head to his highly athletic, balanced body.  He has a real 'strut' to him, with a beautiful, fluid stride and a whole lot of presence."

"Te Akau NZ trainer Jamie Richards hasn't been missed by judges around the world.  He has made a remarkable start to his training career and I am sure he can take this exciting stayer a long way in New Zealand and Australia in the future," Moroney added.

Caliburn enters quarantine this Friday in England and will arrive in Melbourne in two weeks' time.

Paul has done a great job in sourcing this highly promising horse for us. Our Te Akau owners were certainly impressed too as the shares in Caliburn were snapped up in just two hours. Karyn and I would like to wish all of his new owners all the very best of luck with Caliburn and we cannot wait for him to arrive in the Southern Hemisphere.
