Fay Khan It - Loving It

Fay Khan It (4 m Mongolian Khan - Morgan Le Fay, by Golan), one of two runners on the day for Mark Walker, won the $14,000 Rating 60 1560 metres on 5 July at Rotorua.

A winner three starts ago on a Heavy10 track in the Maiden High-weight 1600 metres in May at Tauranga, Fay Khan It again coped with testing conditions and proved dominant after working forward to lead early in the race.

Ridden by Champion Jockey Michael McNab, set to retain his title this season and who rode three winners at the meeting, Fay Khan It appeared to travel best inside the 600m and once put under pressure turning for home, she responded by drawing out to score by one and three-quarter lengths.

In the race named Have Your Function at Arawa Park, Fay Khan It shortened in betting to pay $4.80 & $1.70 on the NZ TAB tote.

“It was a good ride of Michael's, summing it early, he got her out wide to the right part of the track and it was a top effort by the mare,” said Walker, after extending his record-breaking season to 194 wins.

“I think there's more in store for her after a nice win, especially as we step her up in distance.”

Owned by the Fay Khan It Syndicate who entrusted the mare to Te Akau to train, she displayed potential in her first trial when stretching out for third as a three-year-old at Ellerslie. She also was third to subsequent Group One winning stable-mate Romancing The Moon (El Roca), and recorded her second win in 10 starts at Rotorua.

“She's from a Golan mare and some of his progeny have handled wet ground,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “She's still developing, is from a good family, and has the pedigree to appreciate further.”

Fay Khan It was strapped by Zoe Ashworth.
