Filly for Karaka Millions' First-Time Owners' Bonus
Date: 28 Jan 2024
We've secured our first yearling to be aimed at the Karaka New Owners' Bonus in 2025!
Be quick - there's some serious prizemoney on offer!
What does this mean?
It means that Lot 81, our fancy Shamus Award filly, will have at least 50% of first-time owners to racing, in order to qualify for an exciting new bonus in 2025.
What's the bonus about?
The $200,000 New Owners' Bonus will be won by the first horse across the finish line in the $1 million TAB Karaka Millions 2YO that has 50% or more of the ownership being held by first-time owners. Aimed to introduce newcomers to the thrill of racehorse ownership, new owners can purchase a share in this yearling and be racing for $1.2 million only a year later.
The New Owners Bonus is a tremendous chance for people who haven’t owned a horse before to join in in the thrills of racing a thoroughbred and enjoy even more success if their yearling sales purchase performs well in the 2025 TAB Karaka Millions 2YO.
How does this work?
Existing Te Akau owners will be able to take shares in this filly up to a maximum of 50% in total - the other 50% must be purchased by new owners, first-time involved in racing.
Please note that, due to being able to buy shares on line on our website, if an existing Te Akau owner purchases a share that then takes the 'existing owners' threshold' past 50% in total, your purchase will not be able to be confirmed and will be refunded to you. Any shareholding, given this unique opportunity, is only confirmed once we have sent you an email from the team to say your share falls within the 50% threshold.
This filly ...
Incredibly, Shamus Award won the 2013 Group 1 Cox Plate as a Maiden before franking the form winning the Group 1 Australian Guineas and being named Champion Three-Year-Old of the Year.
Son of multiple Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), Shamus Award has been very successful at stud, siring 225 winners of over 750 races, 24 individual stakes' winners (including 11 Group 1 wins).
Shamus Award is the sire of current star filly in the Te Akau stable Quintessa, who right from the outset displayed incredible determination and tenacity, winning four of her six starts, most recently in the Group 1 Levin Classic at Trentham.
“Shamus Award is doing a great job at stud and this is a really nice type of filly,” said David Ellis CNZM.
“She carries herself beautifully, has terrific balance and just glides when she walks.
“She is very much in the mould of Shamus Award, and it’s hard to beat the line up of sires in her dam line: Sebring, Anabaa, Last Tycoon (the sire of O’Reilly), and Champion Australian speed sire Vain.”
Her dam Fille Champagne, by Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, won three races to 1400 metres in Australia, and already left dual sprint winner Champagne Torque.
“Sebring has been a high quality sire influence in Australia, and having a very bright future as a broodmare sire,” Ellis said.
“We really did pick her up at a good value price and we’re thrilled to be taking her home.”
