First Time Owner

David writes:

On 20 June 1979 I arrived in the Waimai Valley in Te Akau to start my career as a sheep and cattle farmer.  I started with two massive mortgages on 550 acres.

My vet then was John Southworth who remained my vet until 1987 when he retired from his veterinary practice to concentrate on a thriving consultancy business.

Douglas Black has been my vet since then so I have only had two vets in 35 years.

In those days, John would arrive on the farm to treat horses, sheep and cattle.  He would also sell cattle and sheep drench plus anything else a farmer ever needed - thistle spray etc - you name it!

I have always been friends with John but have never been able to convince him to take a share in a racehorse until yesterday when he took 25% in a beautiful filly who is a half sister to Miss Thorn and Corsage and whose grandmother is the grand Group 1 winning mare Seamist.

John is also the father of my accountant and friend Gilbert Southworth - best of luck John and even though I have had to wait for 35 years, we are thrilled to have you in the team!
