Free Happy & Very Happy

It was a case of Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker doing what he does best - training winners!

Yes another weekend of racing complete, Mark was again in winning form, continuing the great start to the new season for our stable.  A weekend doesn't go by without the stable landing firmly in the winner's circle and this time it was in a $35,000 Maiden 1200m on the long course A.

On Sunday it was the turn of Free Happy, a recent addition to the Te Akau stable.  A 4YO by Elvstroem out of the Kiwi mare Tumbi Umbi, the gelding was having just his second start.   He had debuted convincingly when third on 18 January, a race that indicated that he would certainly win races for owner Mr Lai Chan Cheong.

Ridden by last season's Champion Singapore jockey Manuel Nunes, Free Happy was also close to the action when settling two behind the early leader.  Relishing the turf track, when asked to present, the brakes came off and away he went for a comfortable 2.3 length win in the final analysis.

Watching the race from Te Akau Stud, Mark has been in New Zealand for the recent Karaka sale and it was a huge thrill for the assembled team - David, Karyn, Jamie, Julia-Rose and Hamish to celebrate yet another winner for our Singapore stable - well done to the team!

As the Singapore commentator noted last night, Mark Walker is leading the Trainers' Premiership and becomes the first trainer of the new season to enter double figures, with Free Happy being winner number 10 with only one month of racing completed.
