Gingernuts to Lead Derby Field

Everyone at Te Akau is hugely proud that our star Gingernuts has been formally asked to lead out the field for this year's Group 1 NZ Derby.

The Informant reports:

Two years on from his sparkling victory in the New Zealand Derby, the hugely popular Gingernuts will return to Ellerslie and lead the field out for the 2019 edition of the $1 million classic on March 2.

Bought by Te Akau's David Ellis for just $42,500 at the 2015 Ready to Run Sale, Gingernuts became a star on both sides of the Tasman for his racetrack exploits and his legions of adoring owners.

With further Group One victories in the Rosehill Guineas and Windsor Park Plate, the Iffraaj gelding won six of his 12 starts and more than $1.27 million in a career cut short by injury.
