Glen Boss Jumps at the Chance

The Informant reports:

Singapore-based Australian jockey Glen Boss has eagerly accepted an invitation to ride in the Gr. 1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie next weekend.

Best known for winning three consecutive Melbourne Cups on champion stayer Makybe Diva, plus Cox Plates on Makybe Diva, So You Think and Ocean Park, Boss has been in Singapore since mid-2016. He has ridden more than 127 winners at Kranji and has finished in the top five in the premiership every season.

Te Akau Racing announced this week that Boss and Opie Bosson would ride their two runners in this year's $1 million Ellerslie classic, In A Twinkling and Prise De Fer. It has not yet been confirmed who will ride which horse.

“Mark Walker is the one who told me if I'd ride a horse in the Derby for Te Akau,” Boss told the Singapore Turf Club.

“As my suspension ends the day before, I said yes right away. It's an honour to get a ride in such a big race for the Te Akau Stable.

“At this stage, Te Akau has not decided which horse I will ride, but they're both good chances. I will fly back to Singapore on the same night and will be back riding the next day at the Sunday meeting at Kranji.”

Boss is no stranger to riding in New Zealand, with 45 rides in this country over the last 15 years for four wins headed by the Gr. 2 Stoney Bridge Stakes (now Gr. 1 Windsor Park Plate) on Starcraft. He also rode Booming into a second placing in the 2010 Auckland Cup.
