Prise De Fer (Savabeel) and Need I Say More (No Nay Never) had an exhibition gallop between races on 23 September at Matamata, ahead of their next assignments.
Group 2 & 3 winner and Group 1 placed Prise De Fer (main picture) produced an eye-catching third in the Foxbridge Plate (Gr. 2, 1200m) on 5 September at Te Rapa, and readying for the $200,000 Windsor Park Plate (Gr. 1, 1600m) on 3 October at Hastings. He is currently $8.00 in the fixed odds market, headed by stable-mates Avantage (Fastnet Rock) and Melody Belle (Commands) both at $3.00.
“Prise De Fer is stepping from 1200m to a mile, a month between runs, and he needed it, and Need I Say More is a month between runs up to 1400 metres,†said trainer Jamie Richards.
“They both had a freshen-up after their last runs at Te Rapa, done well since and it was a nice exhibition gallop.
“We were a little worried about three trips in six weeks to Hastings, with Prise De Fer, so decided to concentrate on the second and third legs with him and the gallop will tidy him up nicely.â€
Working on his own over 1200 metres, ridden by Troy Harris, Prise De Fer clocked 1:11.9, 1:02.6 for the 1000m, and last 600m in 34.8.
Rich Hill Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m) winner Prise De Fer, owned by the Te Akau En Guarde Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $100,000, from the draft of Trelawney Stud (for Raffles Farm), at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, and now won six of his 15 starts.
Mr. one-hundred percent - three from three - Need I Say More (3 g No Nay Never - Bo Bardi, by Fastnet Rock) won the WRC Northland Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) fresh-up on 5 September at Te Rapa, having previously provided Te Akau with their eighth Waikato Stud Slipper (Gr. 3, 1200m) in February at Matamata.
Preparing for the $100,000 Hawkes Bay Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m) on 3 October at Hastings, owned by the Te Akau Never Say Die Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis), Need I Say More (pictured below) was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $130,000, from the draft of Kilgravin Lodge, at the 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale.
“He's not a horse that needs a lot of racing, so we've taken our time with him,†Richards said. “He worked nice and strong and Gryllsy (Craig Grylls) was happy with how he felt, as was Troy (Harris) with Prise De Fer.â€
Need I Say More worked over 1000 metres in 1:00.1, and his last 600m in 33.8.
