Last start winner Icebomb (4 m Darci Brahma - Snowdonia, by Peintre Celebre) continued her terrific form with victory in the $11,000 Hatuma Lime Rating 72 1200 metres on 25 October at Waipukurau.

Up in grade after booming home to win the Rating 65 1200 metres three weeks earlier at Tauranga, Icebomb, stakes' placed as a two-year-old in the Phoenix Park Classic (Gr. 3, 1200m), appeared ready to threaten immediately and so it proved.

In a field reduced to six, following the scratching of Divine Power (Power) at the barrier, Icebomb was allowed to find her feet, settling at the rear, but tracked up nicely behind the leader in the straight and once Shafiq angled her clear she required only a hand ride to get the job done.

Icebomb possesses the best attribute in thoroughbred racing - acceleration, and again the turn of foot was evident in her finish.

Winning by a comfortable short neck over race favourite Vinnie's Volley (Iffraaj), with two and a half lengths to third, Icebomb ran the 1200 metres in 1:11.2 on footing upgraded to Good3 and as a result of Divine Power coming out she returned $2.50 & $1.50 in a price altered market.

Icebomb was purchased privately by Te Akau principal David Ellis for $50,000, out of the paddock at Jamieson Park and, incredibly consistent, she has now registered three wins, six seconds, third, and fourth, from 11 starts for the Te Akau Icebomb Syndicate.

“She's a filly I bought out of the paddock from James Chapman at Jamieson Park,” Ellis said. “He's doing a terrific job breeding thoroughbreds and his manager, Sam Munro, is one of the best in the business.

“Karyn (Fenton-Ellis) syndicated her amongst a team of wonderful owners and she's already given them a lot of excitement, and it looks like there's still more to come.

“Jamie (Richards) has trained and placed her brilliantly. I bought her father (Darci Brahma) as a yearling. He won five Group Ones: Group One wins in Australia and New Zealand, and he's been a fantastic Champion sire. We always get such a thrill seeing his progeny win - it's something you never tire of.”

Trainer Jamie Richards said: “It was a good, positive win. Sometimes, when horses like her are racing consistently and finally break through, they can put a couple together like she's done.

“She's a bit stronger this year, black type placed as a two-year-old, and she's come on for it. She's all heart, tries hard, the owners are being rewarded for patience, and thanks to the team at the middle barn that take good care of her. She may not be the easiest, but gives one-hundred and twenty percent each time she goes to the races.”

Icebomb was strapped by Jahmane Murray-Bromwich.
