Te Akau Racing can confirm that our star mare Imperatriz will contest the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap on 9 March 

David Ellis CNZM said:

"Careful consideration was given to both Sydney and Melbourne options for that date - a number of factors (pros and cons) were discussed by the team, including the weight she is likely to be assigned.

"After much deliberation we have decided on the Flemington assignment - we believe this is in her best interests, which is always our guiding principal. Her main end targets this campaign remain the Group 1 William Reid at Moonee Valley later this month where she will defend her 2023 crown, and then on to Sydney for the Group 1 TJ Smith at Royal Randwick in April.

"She galloped today at Moonee Valley and co-trainer Mark Walker was very pleased with her."
