Karaka 2023 starts today!

The 2023 Karaka Sale is here!

The last eight weeks have been hugely busy for Team Te Akau. The weeks leading in to the Karaka Sale are full-on, but it's a time that we absolutely love. This is when we identify and purchase our next generation of tangerine success stories for our owners to share in. You can be sure we are hunting down our 8th consecutive Karaka 2YO Million winner, our next NZB Filly of the Year, our next Group 1 winner!

We are proud to be New Zealand's No.1 stable by every measure - wins, Group wins, and over $4.7 million in domestic prize money already won for our owners this season.
How do we achieve these results season in, season out? It'd no fluke - it comes down to the calibre of horses we buy and train, the loyalty of our amazing owners and also, very importantly, our people, our systems and processes - total professionalism in everything we do. It's attention to detail and leaving no stone unturned in our desire to bring out the very best in every horse.
Did you know that an independent analysis into the success of thoroughbred buyers from 2015-2021 published by TDN (Thoroughbred Daily News, Australia & NZ) put our own David Ellis CNZM on top internationally - yes No.1 over that period. On raw numbers, David performed as the top purchaser of yearlings globally on the buyer dataset of 2015-21. The report identified 188 yearling purchases with a stakes return of 17.02% of stakes' winners to purchases.

Back to business and finding the next group of Group winners - we've been very impressed with the quality of the yearlings this year.

We have plenty of exciting opportunities you can be involved in, including our premium colt and our filly partnerships - the shares are almost all sold. There's so much interest in a ladies' syndicate again too, as that's been so much fun this past year. We will also be buying horses from approx. $20,000 - $200,000 that will be sold as individuals - we will have horses across all price ranges so there will be a share that suits all our owners/investors.

In Australasia there are over 80 Group 1 races worth $1 million or more, major stakes increases have been announced for example by Racing Queensland, Racing NSW and Racing Victoria and we have these in our sights. Te Akau's expansion plans into Australia are being fine-tuned so watch this space. It's a brilliant time to be involved!

Remember, keep a close eye on our website as we will be posting details of our new yearlings, and those shares just get the “all sold” sign quicker than you can blink! www.teakauracing.com

Go the tangerine and let's go!
