Karaka Million Night Preview

Te Akau NZ trainer Jason Bridgman has three horses entered in feature events on Karaka Million night at the Auckland Racing Club's Ellerslie meeting on Sunday 25 January 2015.

As at Friday 23 January the skies were clear, the track a Good 3 and the rail out 1.5m.

6:13pm R3 7 Rockfast - James McDonald; has drawn the outside barrier for this event where he encounters the same course and distance as his last start in the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas when he ran second on New Year's Day. An honest performer using this race as a stepping stone towards bigger tasks going forward, he will be doing his best work late in the running.

6:45pm R4 10 Arpeggio - James McDonald; the Sir Peter Vela bred and owned Tavistock filly has drawn nicely and brings last start winning form into play.  She showed plenty of dash last start over this distance at Rotorua on 27 December when winning with plenty in the tank.  In the hands of international rider James McDonald with a lightweight of just 54.5kgs, although up in class she can certainly festure in the finish.

7:20pm R5 7 Windborne - Matthew Cameron; drawn midfield in New Zealand's richest race, she has the gate speed and tractability to be placed to advantage in the running and atone for a disappointing finish in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes when too close to a hot pace. A stakes' winner at the course and distance, she possesses the ability but will need some luck in the running to be in the top three in a very competitively run race.
