Karaka Wrap Day 1
25 January, 2026
Day One of the 2026 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales Series is complete, and Team Te Akau has made a confident and considered start on home soil - securing 11 quality yearlings and finishing as the leading purchaser of the day, with NZ$3,150,000 invested, as the next chapter for these yearlings begins.
As always, Karaka remains a cornerstone of Te Akau’s success, and Day 1 once again reflected the disciplined, time-tested approach that has delivered champions year after year. From proven local sire power to internationally proven stallions, the opening day purchases showcase depth, balance, and long-term vision.
A strong foundation at Karaka
Te Akau wasted no time asserting intent on Day 1, building momentum early and continuing to add quality as the session unfolded. The buying team focused on athletic, correct individuals with strong pedigrees - horses selected not only to perform early, but with the scope and constitution to train on.
The group features a blend of colts and fillies, underpinned by stallions that continue to shape Australasian racing at the highest level, alongside emerging sire influences that offer both upside and value.
Sire Strength & Pedigree Power
The Day 1 purchases showcased depth across elite local and international sire lines. Savabeel again featured prominently - a stallion synonymous with our Karaka success - while speed and precocity were added through Russian Revolution, Spirit Of Boom, and Home Affairs. International depth and versatility were evident through Too Darn Hot, Per Incanto, Super Seth, and In The Congo, reinforcing Te Akau’s commitment to sourcing horses capable of competing at the highest level on both sides of the Tasman. Each yearling reflects a clear plan - not just when chosen on sale days, but for long-term racing and ownership success.
