Karyn Elected to Members' Council

Karyn Fenton-Ellis has topped the vote count for the election of a Northern Regional member of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing's (NZTR) Members' Council - as announced by NZTR last night:

Currently New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) is governed by a Board of six Directors.

At the NZTR AGM on 15 December 2010, Thoroughbred Racing Clubs throughout New Zealand agreed to support the process of the selection of a new independent Board to run NZTR.

A Members' Council was established and charged with responsibility for all aspects of the appointment of the six  independent NZTR Directors.

Representatives from the three regions (Northern, Central and Southern) along with a representative from the Trainers, Owners and Breeders sector were then elected.

"This year the following six Regional Members of the Members' Council retire at the conclusion of the 2013 AGM and are eligible for re-election: Mr Danny Moss (Northern Region), Mr David Smith (Northern Region), Mr Wayne Guppy (Central Region), Mr Bruce Perry (Central Region), Mr Murray Acklin (Southern Region) and Mr John Wood (Southern Region). Messrs David Smith and Bruce Perry are not seeking re-election.

In the northern region there was an election for two seats between Mrs Karyn Fenton-Ellis (Waikato), Mr Danny Moss (Te Aroha) and  Mr Peter Silson (Tauranga).

In the Central Region Mr Wayne Guppy (Wellington) and Mr Charles Whyte (Hawkes Bay) were elected unopposed.

In the Southern Region there was an election for two seats between Mr Murray Acklin (Oamaru), Mr Howard Clarke (Winton) and Mr John Wood (Greymouth).

Return of voting papers by racing clubs closed at 12.00pm on 30 September 2013.  The elections for the Northern Region and Southern Region were scrutinised and tallied by NZTR Auditors' Deloitte.

The scrutineer has advised that the following were the votes received by each of the candidates in the Northern Region election:

Accordingly, Mrs Karyn Fenton-Ellis and Mr Danny Moss are declared members of the NZTR Members' Council for the Northern Region to serve for a three-year term from the conclusion of this year's Annual General Meeting.

The scrutineer has advised that the following were the votes received by each of the candidates in the Southern Region election:

Accordingly, Mr Murray Acklin and Mr Howard Clarke are declared members of the NZTR Members' Council for the Southern Region to serve for a three-year term from the conclusion of this year's Annual General Meeting.

The following members of the NZTR Members' Council continue in office: Mrs Victoria Carter (Chairman and Northern Region), Mr John Wheeler (Central Region), Mr Bill Cotton (Southern Region), Mr Neil Oldfield (Owners' Federation), Mr John Fokerd (Breeders' Association) and Mr David Haworth (Trainers' and Riders' Associations).

These results will be formally declared at the NZTR AGM to be held on 7 November 2013 at Te Papa in Wellington."
