Kranji Sunday Analysis

The Singapore Turf Club reports:

RACE 1

Now that Fantastic Man (2) has got off the mark, he could get on a roll. Faces similar opposition but goes over turf for the first time. If he handles it and overcomes his wide gate, he should be hard to beat. Imperial Boy (3) is another who made his mark on the all-weather. Reverts to turf. Good chance. It's been long time between drinks for Jet Man (11) but his latest runs indicate he would not be without a chance in this. Hardcore Rock (5) was trapped wide throughout at his last start. Forget that run. Can atone.

RACE 2

On his impressive last-start all-the-way win, Big Man (3) will have his fair share of admirers in this, especially from the good gate. Beaten by Genius on debut but can turn the tables with the two-kilo turnaround. Genius (1) remains a top chance in this. Will give this a shake. Lim's Showcase (2) did not fare too badly on debut. Pacifiers off. Has drawn an alley and should be able to box-seat. Newcomer D'Buffalo Man (8) trialled well on June 30, running a close-up fourth to Scout Done. Forward run on the cards.

RACE 3

Many chances to pick from. Jimtown (3) is knocking on the door. Will relish extra 200m and barrier No 1 is a bonus. Top chance. Super Joe (1) looked all over the winner last time out but just failed to catch Over Easy. Strong claims. On-pace runner Amazing (2) will try and dictate terms by crossing early from his wide gate, but it remains to be seen if he can see all them off. Place claims look better. Handsome Bab (11) is a pony and probably one of the smallest horses to have raced at Kranji, but he did give some signs there could be a race for him one day. Faces stiff task and goes up in distance but can fill the minors with some luck.

RACE 4

Star Beauty (3) flew home for third at long odds at her last start. If she proves that was no fluke, she would be a leading hope in this. Nice draw. Booking of Manoel Nunes is a pointer to her chances. Captain Mccaw (4) needed the run as his comeback from a long break. Did not do too badly and expect a marked improvement this time. Geeson Master (5) ran a belter first-up from a spell. Will benefit from that run and is not without a say in this. Awkwardly drawn but it should not matter as he gets back. Winkers on.Congo Zandor (2) has been around the mark of late. Back on turf but has drawn badly. Not without a place chance if he can get a good posie early.

RACE 5

Wide open Yew Tee Classic Stakes. Stepitup (1) lost no marks when a closing fifth to Accomplished over a distance not made to suit last Friday when first-up from a break since the SIA Cup. Backs up and will represent a bigger threat over this trip. Slew Of Lode (3) bounced back to form at his last start. Hit the front a shade too early and was run down by Blue Swede. Include in calculations. Martin (5) flew home for second to stablemate Valbuena last time out. Seems to be back to his best. Must be considered. There was plenty to like about the way Wild Geese (6) stormed home at his last outing, even when it was all over. Form is ebbing back. Big say.

RACE 6

Irish-bred Squire Osbaldeston (3) finally showed his true worth by opening his Kranji account last time out. Trip suits and he should figure prominently again. Barrier No 1. Stablemate City Of Kirkwall (2) will stay all day. If he gets a good run in transit, he will be chiming in. Blinker-pacifiers seem to have helped Alasamo (4) turn the corner. Galloper who will be hard to run down if he gets away cheaply upfront. Brad (10) has been stepping up in distance and should be able to take the rise to 2000m in his stride. No weight on his back. Genuine chance.

RACE 7

After two thirds in as many starts, New Zealand filly Mangatoetoenui (10) looks the goods here. Will relish extra 200m. Winning Good (8) is not without ability. Will be sharper for the run after two outings, especially with blinkers going on. Go close. Essentially (2) made a sound debut when sixth but only two lengths off the winner Astrospeed. Will strip fitter for this and an improved performance is to be expected, even if the wide barrier raises some concerns. Two-year-old Terms Of Reference (13)has already given glimpses of ability in three runs. Nicely drawn. Will be charging home late.

RACE 8

Singapore Horse of the Year War Affair (1) is on the cusp of history. A win would make him the first Triple Crown winner of the 4YO series in its current format. Laboured at his win in the first Leg, the Stewards' Cup (1400m), he was back to his imperious best in the second Leg, the Patron's Bowl (1600m). Should be able to see out 2000m but faces more proven stayers and a wide gate. Still the one to run down. On recent form, Quechua (2) will be his main threat. Trip is right up his alley and he will be chasing War Affair down in the concluding stages. Fastnet Dragon (9) faces his biggest test thus far. Has scored four-in-a-row but in weaker company. Two factors on his side: Top jockey on his back and marble one, but a place still looks a better option. Absolutely (8) may not have quite measured up of late but at his last start in the Patron's Bowl, he kept working home, suggesting he will thrive over the extra 400m. Tongue-tied. Outside chance.

RACE 9

Red Dawn (8) was given every chance at his last outing but found one better in Catch Me Great. Should give some sight. Hermano Menor (6) scored a brilliant all-the-way win last time out. Defeated stablemate Jay Eff Express who went on to win at his last race to make the formline look good. Right in the mix for this. Smart People (3)reproduced the same run as at his last win, but Olympic Anthem was just too good. In same rattling form and must be respected. Ignore White Coffee's (5) last run. He missed the kick and faced an uphill task thereafter. Previous form was solid. Worth another chance.

RACE 10

Smart sprinter Kiwi Karma (8) is first-up since her fantastic fourth in the KrisFlyer International Sprint in May. Goes well fresh and has enough gate speed to overcome wide alley. In the hunt for a long way. Happy Money (5) ran a cracking second to stablemate War Affair in the Group 2 Stewards' Cup. Drops back to 1200m and will be a leading chance if he gets his way in front. El Padrino (1) was outpaced early in the KrisFlyer only to make some ground late. Likely to bring up the rear again. Can sneak into the minors if they roll along upfront. Wimbledon (10) is racing in great form but faces a stronger opposition here. Can lead and be held up in a handy spot. Trip suits and may still steal a place.

RACE 11

Trainer Mark Walker holds a strong hand in this race and can saddle the tierce. Brahms And Liszt (12) tried his heart out last time out but had to settle for a place. Winkers replaced with blinkers. Has drawn an alley and will bear watching again. Last-start winner Free Happy (3) reeled off a nice working gallop with Sebrose on the turf on Wednesday. Has trained on and should prove competitive again. Irish Rebel (5) has been unwinding with big finishes of late and if he gets the right breaks, he should be in the firing line. Wide gate won't pose a problem as he is a swooper. Blazing Sun (11) has one win and one third on the board from three runs. Should appreciate the step-up to 1400m. Worth including in quartet.
