Te Akau Levin Preview
27 November, 2014
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the nine-race premier programme for the Levin Racing Club on Friday November 28 at Otaki.
As on Wednesday November 26 the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail true.
4.20 p.m. R8 9 No Tricks (3 f Savabeel - Mezaire) - Matt Cameron; sustained a big run from off the pace for second on Oct. 25 in the Rating 65 1400 metres at Ellerslie, after proving a class above her rivals in winning the Maiden 1300 metres by 3.3 lengths on Oct. 8 at Taupo. Her three starts have resulted in a third, first & second respectively and she now steps up a notch to contest the Wellington Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m). In the firing the line on form, with the likes of fellow northerners Mongolian Khan, Sardaaj, and Vavasour, she has drawn favourably in barrier two and the give in the ground should work in her favour to prove competitive.
4.55 p.m. R9 6 Longbeach (4 g Fastnet Rock - Betwixt) - Matt Cameron; steadied for cover from a wide draw, standing the leader ten lengths at the 600m, he closed off stylishly for sixth behind winning stable-mate Tiara (O'Reilly) on Nov. 8 in the Rating 65 1600 metres at Te Rapa. A staying type - his dam, Betwixt (O'Reilly), registered the Tasmanian Derby (Gr. 3, 2200m) amongst her three wins - he increases in distance for the Rating 65 2100 metres and drawing barrier four should ensure an economical trip. Like his stable-mate, above, he brings strong northern form and appears a leading chance in this field.
