Life is a Cabaret - Win 101
It was a terrific day at Avondale on Wednesday for Te Akau trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards as they trained two winners - almost three with Gardenier going down a nose in the last.  Here is the first of the duo ... taking the season tally to 101 -

Cabaret (3f Showcasing - Something Majic) scored a fresh up victory when taking out the Fasttrack Insurance Fillies & Mares Maiden 1200 metres on 22 June at Avondale.

Resuming from a spell, Cabaret had three trials to prepare for her first up assignment including a second at her most recent trial at Cambridge on 7 June.

Cabaret is owned by a long-time supporter of Te Akau, Stan Painton who has had horses with with Te Akau and Stephen Autridge for many years - Stan was on course at Avondale to watch his filly take victory by a narrow margin in a gritty finish.

“It's great to have another winner for Stan,"said co-trainer Jamie Richards.

"Stan is such a great supporter of ours and it gives us a great thrill to deliver yet another winner for him."

Jockey Cameron Lammas gave the filly a perfect ride, settling her midfield throughout. On straightening, he rode for luck rather than heading wide to look for the better track conditions. This proved the winning of the race as, at the 300 metre mark, a small opening appeared and Lammas drove the filly through - she responded to the hard urgings of the rider to grab victory on line by a nose.

“She's a filly we have taken along patiently, she is bred to appreciate the winter tracks and we are hopeful that she can continue on from here,” reported Richards.

"It's never easy for a horse to win at their second start, fresh-up in a heavy track."

A $2,000 purchase from the paddock by Painton himself, Cabaret is by Showcasing out of Something Majic (Mohamed Abdu), who herself was a winner of seven races on heavy tracks and the filly looks to have inherited her mother's liking for the rain affected track conditions.

Cabaret's win was the 101st for the Te Akau Autridge/Richards team and gave them a eight-lead advantage on the Trainers' Premiership.

Cabaret was strapped by Hanafi Noorman.
