We are excited to welcome our brand new colt purchased on Wednesday night from the South Island Sale - and he will really impress you - he was incredible buying!
A real Derby type, that's what we bought him for - classic races - he just stood out to David and Jamie and being Lot 2, the team struck early and snapped him up - the shares in him will disappear before you know it.
Champion Stayer in Australia, his sire Preferment is a four-time Group One winning son of Champion Sire Zabeel. He recorded his Group 1 victories in the Victoria Derby (Gr. 1, 2500m), Turnbull Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m), Australian Cup (Gr. 1, 2000m), and The BMW (Gr. 1, 2400m), and $3.6m prize money in his outstanding career.
From a mare by Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Flying Spur (Danehill), Preferment was purchased by trainer Chris Waller as a yearling at Karaka and provided an early return on investment.
Clearly impressed, Waller also purchased the equal top priced ($160,000) yearling by Preferment from his first offering at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, and noted bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne went to $280,000 for one of his colts at the yearling sale this year.
That makes our colt OUTSTANDING BUYING!
A 10% share is only $6,080 +GST and a 5% share just $3,040 +GST!

His stakes' performed dam Play Me was a winner over 2000 metres in the UK, and left versatile three-time winner Trueman. She ran third as a three year old in the Group 3 Musidora Stakes in England against a very strong field - and she was Group and stakes' placed another three times. The colt also has a three year old half sister called Lady Long Stokes by Tavistock who is in Perth and owned by legendary owner Bob Peters.
His dam sire Nashwan, by the mighty sire Blushing Groom, won both his starts as a two-year-old before a unique quartet of Group One wins in the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Eclipse Stakes, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a feat that remains unequalled. At stud he left European Champion racehorse and sire Swain. In turn, Nashwan was out of one of the best broodmares in history, Height of Fashion, and a half-brother to Ufuwain and Nayef, a family made famous by Sheik Hamdan Al Maktoum.
“We thought he was the best type in the sale,†said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “He's a classic sort of colt and a real Guineas/Derby sort of horse.
“He's by a stallion that was a fantastic racehorse and there are good words being spoken about young horses from his first two crops. His progeny have been bought by respected judges and gone to good stables in New Zealand and Australia.
“While not natural running two-year-olds, they look like horses that will continue to improve with time and classic types that should become good Cups horses.
“He moves well, plenty of quality about him, rich colour, and natural strength. We're pleased to have secured him at the price and think he has plenty of upside.â€
This is the international family of Mrs Moss and of course Tavistock and Zabeel's son Precedence. The colt has plenty of size and is a strong, good-boned correct colt with a lot of his sire line about him. He has a wonderful attitude and is a "very good doer" according to his vendor Brighthill Farm who raised him and hold him in high regard.
The last colt David bought from this sale was Markus Aurelius for $13,000 - he has won six of his 11 starts (last four in a row) with another three placings and earned nearly $100,000!
