Love Conquers All - at Gisborne
16 February, 2020
Enduring Love (4 m Camelot - Holy Moly, by Holy Roman Emperor) registered a richly deserved victory on Sunday in the $10,000 Gisborne Refrigeration Maiden 1200 metres.
Somewhat unlucky not to win during her first campaign, when registering two seconds, two thirds, and three fourths, the beautifully bred mare had continued solid form this time in and broke through after placing in six of nine starts at the distance.
Ridden by Danielle Johnson, Enduring Love found an ideal spot behind a competitive pace before improving to third on straightening and wore the leader down as they drew clear.
On footing with the fire out (Dead4), she ran the 1200 metres in 1:11.6 and paid $3.20 & $1.40 on the NZ TAB.
“The win has been awhile in the making and it was a good solid effort,†said trainer Jamie Richards. “I'm glad she was able to do that for her owners, who have been very patient with her, and persistency has paid off.â€
Richards suggested Enduring Love could race again next week during the East Coast circuit at Wairoa.
“We might be able to sneak another win out of her there and quite often they grow in confidence with a win and can go on with it,†he said. “She's got a nice pedigree and every win we can get is a big help in her overall value.â€
Purchased by David Ellis for $250,000, from the draft of Coolmore Stud, at the 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and owned by the Te Akau Queen of Camelot Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis). Enduring Love is a very well bred filly, by 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, and Irish Derby winner Camelot (Montjeu), from stakes winning mare Holy Moly (Holy Roman Emperor).
Both her dam Holy Moly and the grand-dam Clarissa (Zabeel) were impressive winners on home soil in New Zealand, while Holy Moly also won twice in Australia. She is a half-sister to stakes winning filly Indarra (Stravinsky).
Enduring Love carries a pedigree cross of Danehill (Danzig), the most successful sire of all-time (349 stakes winners, including 89 Group Ones), on the dam side of Camelot and as the sire of Holy Roman Emperor.
“She had been building to a win and I'm thrilled for her and the owners,†Ellis said. “She has been very well placed by Jamie (Richards), and Danielle (Johnson) gave her every chance.
“Craig Thornton, who I regard as one of the best horsemen, is down there looking after the team and doing a great job. It was our 83rdwin this season and Jamie leads the premiership with an incredible strike rate of 4.9.â€
