Making Us Proud

Making Us Proud

We have two events which have made us really proud in recent days!

Firstly to our wonderful New Zealand team members - as you know we now have our team turned out in smart shorts, jackets and caps all bearing the Te Akau imagery and logo and in our racing colours.

We were so thrilled and proud when Te Akau Racing's team was named "Best Presented Team" at the recent Group 1 raceday at Hastings, Hawkes Bay.  Independently judged, this was a terrific compliment to our whole crew who wear our uniforms with pride.  We also love the fact that our owners tell us that this makes our team very easy to spot at trials and racedays!  Well done team!

The other piece of news that has made us hugely proud came from the UK overnight.  Our daughter Lydia competed in the Royal Parks' Foundation Half Marathon which took her over a course covering some of the most beautiful areas of inner London.  Lydia finished the 20kms in a time of 2:10:42 - she has hoped to crack the two hours but told us today that there were so many competitors it became "tight racing quarters at times"!  This hugely popular event boasted over 16,000 participants this year!

It was great to be able to download the app for the event and put in Lydia's number and actually follow her progress around the entire course!

Lydia has only recently started concentrating on this type of event so it was a massive achievement - importantly too Lydia was running to raise funds for Battersea Dogs' and Cats' Home - an organisation where she works and is deeply, personally passionate about.  Thanks to her army of supporters, Lydia and her friend Georgie raised over 700 pounds!

The two photos below show her (top pic) pre race with Catherine Corlett who is a great friend of ours and Lydia's and is our vet Dr Doug Black's sister.  The bottom picture with her friend Georgie after they nailed the finish!  Well done girls!
