Matamata Thursday Trackwork

Counties Cup contenders Annie Higgins, Back in Black, and Thrive all had hitouts this morning ahead of Saturday's feature.

Annie Higgins (Dowling) strode out nicely on the plough over 1200m in 1:25 and 40.1 the final 600m, while Thrive (Hercock) did similar work in a time of 1:22.8 and 37.6. Back in Black (McCrae) was comfortable over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 39.

Pussy O'Reilly (K Jones) represents Matamata in the Auckland Breeder's Stakes at Counties and looked in great order for the race as she galloped 1200m on the all-weather track in 1:24 and cruised home the final 600m in 36.1.

Stablemate Zankuro (B Grylls) had his final hitout for the open 1600m event, working 1000m in 1:09.5 and 39.5 in hand.

Counties Bowl entrant Sequin (Sapsworth) was well held on the plough, working solo in 41 over 600m.

Flaming (Hercock) and Xquisite (C Ormsby) both worked well in company on the plough ahead of the Murdoch Newell Stakes for two-year-olds. Flaming was timed in 37.8 her final 600m while Xquisite had the better of her stablemates in stylish work.

Vincent Street (Wells) was timed in 37.5 his final 600m ahead of the rating 85 1400m at Counties. Back on the all-weather, Quest (K Jones) went 1000m in 1:09.5 and 40.2 the final 600m to prepare for the same event.

Also on the plough, I'lláv'ahalf (Conder) ran her last 600m in 37.5 while stablemate Agent Ziva (A Jones) worked 1000m in 1:08 and 39. Also from the Fursdon team, Only a Rose (Jones) was strong over 1000m in 1:03.1 and 36.8 the final 600m.

Unknown Pleasures (P Ormsby) galloped 1200m in 1:18.4 and 38, The Nott (Gibbs) worked over the same ground in a time of 1:24 and 41.7. Rio Rose (Blair) worked 1200m in 1:21.5 and 37.2 as did Roanin (M Brosnan) in a time of 1:19.3 and 37.5. Opt (K Myers) and Hot Cha (Coleman) were paired over 1000m and stopped the clock in 1:03 and 36.5. Stoneleigh (K Hillis) went 1:05 and 36.5 over the 1000m.

On the all-weather track Zaragoza (P McKay) and Alvesta (J McKay) were strong their last 600m, galloping in 36.8 while stablemates Canterino (S McKay) and Kickbuttowski (J McKay) stopped the clock at 37.5 for their final 600m.
