Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Te Akau Racing stable in full Spring bloom (above)


Forefront and Casual Fling underlined their fitness for weekend assignments when they galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning.


 Working against the course proper rail in the nine-metre position on a track in the upper range of slow, Forefront (Ward) and Casual Fling (B Grylls) wasted no time over 1000m in 1:02.9, with the final 600m in 37.5. Forefront, who has been on hold waiting for improved track conditions, will attempt to complete an unbeaten hat-trick in the Rating 75 sprint at Ellerslie, track conditions allowing.


Casual Fling, who had no luck when resuming at Taupo, starts in the corresponding race at New Plymouth, where she will be ridden by Hayden Tinsley.


Members of the in-form Bridgman team preparing for feature Ellerslie three-year-old features worked right-handed on the course proper, where the markers were at 25 metres. Bonecrusher Stakes candidate King's Rock (Miller) was partnered by King Savinsky (Cameron) over 1200m in 1:23.2, with their last 600m in 39.4.


Soliloquy Stakes runners Spellbinder (Cameron) and Ruthless Lady (Miller) worked away steadily from the winning post and were timed to run their final 600m in 39.3. Gobi Ranger (P Turner) and Deebee Don (Forbes) did similar work, with their last 600m in 40.5.


All other course proper work took place left-handed at 25 metres, where Te Aroha Friday entries Osmunda (Cameron) and Jewels Gift (Dee) did well over 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 39.5. Villifye (C Grylls), who will resume at Ellerslie provided the ground is reasonable, covered the same ground in 1:09.1 and 40.2, while Made My Point (Forbes) and Snowline (Hepi) returned 1:07.2 and 40.4.


Natsinga (R Jones) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:22.7, 1000m in 1:08.6 and 600m in 40.8. He runs in the open stayers' event at Ellerslie. Little Matey (B Lang) and recent trial winner Pythia (M Gibbs) ran the same distance in 1:23.6, 1:08.6 and 39.9.


Calypso (C Ormsby) was travelling strongly at the end of 1000m in 1:12.2 and 600m in 40.4, while Deschabeel (Coleman) and Energizer (Forbes) were paired in strong work over 1000m in 1:11.4 and 40.8.


On the sand, Kaleidoscope (O'Sullivan) and Tiger Moss (C Grylls) flagged their Ellerslie prospects with a smart 1000m in 1:02 and 600m in 36.9. Stablemates Hush Hush (C Grylls) and Centre Stage (O'Sullivan) prepared for Te Aroha with 1000m in 1:03.1 and 37.5, while Persuasive (Blair) returned 1:03 and 36.9.


True Light (S Wong) and Inis Rose (Leveque) prepared for Te Aroha with 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 37.6, while Schrodingers Cat (R Jones) returned 1:05 and 37.5. Prologue (P McKay) and Travino (C Grylls) were easing at the end of a solid 1200m in 1:17.2 and 600m in 38.9.


Musket Hill (Conder) and High Viz (A Jones) left 1000m behind in 1:08.7 and 600m in 38.2. Over the same ground All Decked Out (Cameron) continued his Hawke's Bay Guineas preparation with an easy 1:14.6 and 44.3. Brave Centaur (Dowling), another headed to the final day at Hastings, ran the same trip in 1:11.6 and 42.5.


Goosebumps (Hazlett) prepared for Sunday's National Jumps Day at Te Rapa with strong work over two rounds, timed for his last 1200m in 1:23.5 and 600m in 41.3. He has thrived since his last start Paeroa win.


Kilderry (S Wong) and Matauri Bay (Dowling) went hard in the early stages of their work before completing 1200m in 1:17.2, 1000m in 1:03.4 and 600m in 38.8. Savarhys (Roff) left 100m behind in 1:07.2 and 39.8, while Ying Yan Master (B Grylls) took 1:06.4 and 38.2, and Thats How We Roll (C Ormsby) 1:12.6 and 42.8.


Beauty Perception (Dowling) and Rose Of Virginia (S Wong) strode over 1200m in 1:23.5 and 600m in 39.5. La Hoya (Forbes) ran the same trip in 1:24 and 40.2.


On the all-weather track Zankuro (B Grylls), who is set to have his first start from the Kelso stable at Ellerslie on the weekend, was not extended over 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 39.4.


Milan Miss (Miller) covered the same ground in 1:07.6 and 37.6 and Taoist Master (Forbes) took 1:08.2 and 38.8, while Pussy O'Reilly (Coleman) was timed over her last 600m in 39.2.
