Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Canterino and Lucky's Revenge prepared for Ruakaka with sound work at Matamata this morning, when fog interrupted the timing of a number of gallops.

On the all-weather track, Canterino (P McKay) and Lucky's Revenge (S McKay) hit the line strongly at the end of 1000m in 1:03.8 and 600m in 36.9. Canterino is a likely improver from his last-start fifth at Ruakaka, while Lucky's Revenge looks well for a return to racing on the weekend.

The pair's two-year-old stablemate Barcelo (S McKay) was never at top when he and Oblivion (Davidson) strode from the 800m in 59.5 and the 600m in 40.4. Barcelo, a son of former McKay stable star Alamosa, has been placed in his last three starts and gets an ideal chance to break through in Saturday's 900-metre juvenile race.

Lil Miss Waitoki (Davidson) ran the last 1000m of her work in 1:10.2 and 600m in 41.8.

On the sand Ruakaka candidates Tatters (Lammas) and Its Our Showtime (K Jones) shaped up well in their work over 1000m in 1:04.8 and 36.1.

Last-start maiden placegetters El Nino (Boyack) and Master Poet (M Brosnan) finished off their work well over 1000m in 1:06.2 and 37.6. Brilliant Magic (Wright) strode over 1200m in 1:23.8, 1:07.6 and 40.2.

Only If (N Waddell) worked boldly over 1000m in 1:03.4 and 37, while Cote d'Or (Wratten) went more steadily to record 1:07.4 and 40.2. Phoebe Snow (Cole) was timed from the 800m in 51.5, with her final 600m in a smart 36.8.
