Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Natsinga turned in a sound trial for Tauranga on Saturday when he partnered Annie Higgins in impressive work at Matamata this morning.

On a good plough, Natsinga (S Wong) and Annie Higgins (Dowling) strode over the last 1200m of their work in 1:17.1, with the final 1000m taking 1:03.3 and 600m 36.8. Natsinga's form this preparation has been consistent apart from a last start failure on heavy ground and he could bounce back on the weekend, while Annie Higgins will be an interesting runner in the weight-for-age feature at Ellerslie next Tuesday.

Cool Cruising shaped as a likely improver when trainer Darryn Weatherley took her over 1000m in 1:04.2 and 600m in 36.8, travelling strongly to the finish as if she could have gone faster. It's been a while since she showed her best but that could change in the R75 1400 at Tauranga.

Made My Point (Roff) and Magic Shaft (Allen) were in good form as they prepared for Tauranga with 1000m in 1:01.8 and 600m in 36.2. Others to run time over 1000m included Ella Grace (Burton) and Peria Princess (Holmquist) in 1:01.4 and 38.2, and Flossy The Cat (R Turner) and Svavarsson (Hepi) in 1:04.4 and 36.2.

Covered 'N Bay (H McQuade) got through good work over 1200m in 1:17.6 and 1000m in 1:03.6, but due to fog no final sectional was possible. Tauranga entry Keep In Tune (Dowling) and Needlly (S Wong), who runs at Ellerslie, ran the same distance in 1:17.4 and 1:02.8, while Jewel's Gift (Dee) and Osmunda (Hercock) returned 1:20.6 and 1:05 and Crystalight (Sapsworth) 1:22.3 and 1:06.6.

Living The Dream (Sapsworth) and Arnold (Wratten) worked evenly over 1000m in 1:04.2 and 600m in 37.5. Exquisite (C Ormsby) and Reaching Out (C Grylls) covered the same ground in 1:07.9 and 37.6, while Goldie (Goodwin) took 1:07.8 and 41.5.

Bachelor Keen (M Gibbs) strode over 1200m in 1:21.6, with his last 1000m in 1:06.8 and 600m in 39. Over the same distance Toma Valea (M Brosnan) took 1:19.4, Secret Whisper (Hercock) and Clos de Tart (Dee) 1:21.2, 1:05.9 and 39, Persuasive (Coleman) 1:24.5 and 39.2, Fairy Cake (C Grylls) 1:26.1, 1:08.3 and 38.8, and Flying Fantasy (Coleman) 1:26.9 and 1:10.5.

On the all-weather track, Tauranga entry Ravello (S McKay) was partnered by Alvesta (P McKay) over a smart 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 36.8.

Ira Bean (McRae) ran the same distance in 1:06.2 and 37.6, while Makarska (Coleman) was timed over 800m in 55.4 and 600m in 40.5.
