Matamata Tuesday Trackwork
3 January, 2018
Bits And Pieces and Tavis Star looked ready for their weekend assignments when paired in a smart gallop at Matamata on Tuesday morning. Working on the plough, Bits And Pieces (Coleman) and Tavis Star (Newman) were well matched over 1000m in 1:02.3, cutting out the the final 600m in 35.8. Bits And Pieces looks much improved from her recent first-up second and will be hard to beat in the Pearl Series maiden at Ruakaka on Saturday. Tavis Star also finished second in her first run back and heads to Awapuni.
Amarula (S McKay) shaped up for Awapuni when he and Matuzalem (P McKay) hit out boldly on the all-weather track, timed over their last 1000m in 1:01.8 and 36. Amarula appears to be recovered from the foot issue that forced his scratching from the feature sprint at Awapuni before Christmas and will be ridden by claiming apprentice Holly Andrew on Saturday.
Back on the plough, likely Awapuni runners Cia Siu Bao (S Weatherley) and The Mayor (Osborne) worked impressively over ground, with the last 1200m in 1:16.7, 1:02.4 and 36.8. Hot In Heels (N Turner) also impressed ahead of her Awapuni engagement as she covered the last 1200m of her work in 1:21.6, 1:05.5 and 36.9.
Awapuni three-year-old 1400 entry Nucleonic (Lammas) hit out boldly in solo work over 1000m in 1:04.4 and 37, while Fortune Patch (S Weatherley), who runs at Thames on Thursday, covered the same ground in 1:05 and 36.5.
Joe Cargo (N Turner) worked away steadily from the 1200m mark to run that distance in 1:24.2, quickening for a final 1000m in 1:07 and 600m in 37.8. Avantage (Miller) and Pinot Grey (Lammas) were well held over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 40.1.
On the all-weather track Eprouvez (Masa) was timed from the 600m in 39.2, while Veine d'Or (Coleman) quickened over her last 800m in 53 and 39.1.
