Matamata Tuesday Trackwork
9 October, 2018
Heavy fog didn't help timing at Matamata this morning, but several candidates for Saturday's local meeting still showed to advantage.
Galloping on the plough, Team Wealleans Matamata Cup candidate Our King Sway was ridden by raceday jockey Reese Jones as he and Sunburst (Dowling) paired up in smart work. They were timed over 1200m in 1:17.2, with the only section split possible their final 1000m in 1:00.7. Both horses were travelling well when they emerged from the fog. With third placings at his last two starts, Our King Sway has the right form credentials for Saturday's 1600-metre feature, while Sunburst is a likely improver in the Rating 72 1600 after a pleasing fresh-up fifth.
Adis (Winters) and Quian Gua (Bosson) were in good form ahead of their weekend engagements as they cut out 1200m in 1:15.8, 1000m in 1:01.2 and 800m in 48.2. Sleeping Beauty (Yanagida), who runs in the Rating 82 sprint on Saturday, left 1000m behind in 1:00.5 and 800m in 48.4, while King Kane (Miller) returned 1:01.4 over 1000m.
Form runners Bluetwentytwo (J Collett) and Sasanof's Hero (R Jones) worked boldly over 1200m in 1:18.2 and 1000m in 1:02.5, as did Princess Kereru (Coleman) and Star Ella (A Jones) over 1000m in 1:02.4.
Bizzwinkle (Dowling) and Window Shopping (Newman) went together over 1200m in 1:19.2 and 1000m in 1:03.7. Last-start winner Bizzwinkle will be entered for both Matamata and Hawera, with trainer Glenn Old making a decision later in the week depending on relative track conditions.
Shine (Coleman) and Havoc (C Cole) hit out well over 1000m in 1:04.6, while Divine Duke (Yanagida) prepared for the weekend with a solid 1200m in 1:18.4.
On the all-weather track Volpe Veloce (Handley), who resumes at Rotorua next week, strode over the last 1200m of her work in 1:20.2.
Amongst those that could not be timed were Yearn (Dowling), who travelled up well in preparation for Saturday's Taranaki Stakes, and Flaunt It Girl (S McKay), who hit out boldly on the good course proper ahead of her home track engagement.
