Matamata Tuesday Trackwork
16 October, 2018
Class galloper Volpe Veloce signalled her readiness to resume at Rotorua this weekend when she galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning. Again fog hindered full timing of much of the session, but Volpe Veloce did enough to suggest she will be hard to beat in Saturday's Sweynesse Stakes. Galloping 15 metres out on the dead course proper with raceday rider Michael Coleman in the saddle, last season's Railway winner emerged from the fog with a full head of stem and stopped the clock at 1:03.5 for 1000m. The Richardson/Parker-trained mare is in forward order after a recent trial win and pleasing lead-up work.
Star Treasure (Yanagida) and Perroquet (Bayliss) also impressed ahead of resuming at Rotorua when they cut out 1000m in 1:03.2 and 800m in 49.8. Bangles (R Jones), another for Rotorua, and Katie Perry (J Collett) were paired in a solid hitout over 1200m in 1:17.4 and 1000m in 1:03.3.
Seirios (Bosson) and Lady Zeraph (Rusof), race rivals at Tauranga on Friday, impressed with the way they completed 1000m in 1:05.4. Rotorua entries Bocce (Bayliss) and Princess Kereru (Lammas) also worked well over 1000m in 1:05.6, while Sword Of Osman (Bosson) went solo over the same ground in 1:06.8 ahead of Monday's Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa.
Code Cracker (Coleman) and Akaba (Fawcett) covered 1200m in 1:176, with the only split possible their final 800m in 50.8. Rocket Fuel (Handley) and Ambitious Showgirl (Hashizume), who are aimed at the Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday week, hit out well together over 1000m in 1:06.3.
On the sand Tiptronic (Handley) and Recollect (Hashizume) got through sound work ahead of Tauranga when cutting out 1000m in 1:07 and the final 600m in 38.2.
Stablemates La Mia Stella (Handley) and Raspberry Sweet (Hashizume) recorded 1:08.4 over 1000m, with the last 800m in 54.6. Amongst those allowed to step up their work were the Jamie Richards-trained pair Zambezi Warrior (Miller) and Paulownia (Bosson), who completed respective solo work over 800m in 55 and 40.5 and 56.4 and 39.8.
