Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Our Abbadean and Ocean Emperor got through their main lead-up work pleasingly ahead of their Group One assignment in Saturday's Captain Cook Stakes.

Galloping wide out on the heavy course proper, Our Abbadean had raceday rider Shafiq Rusof in the saddle when working in company with Meteoric Lass (Coleman) over 1000m in 1:07.7, the final 600m in 39.9. Our Abbadean has trained on well from a trial hitout last week and will be hard to beat in the Trentham weight-for-age feature, while Meteoric Lass runs at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Form runner Ocean Emperor (Fawcett) was paired with Roll The Gold (Newman) on the all-weather track, completing strong work with 1000m in 1:04.2 and 37.2. The Zabeel entire will be chasing a hat-trick on Saturday, when he will be ridden by Rosie Myers.

Spring Heat (Yanagida) and Fine And Dandee (Karlsson) ran good time when cutting out 1000m in 1:05.5 and 37.8, while Ellerslie entries Princess Kereru (Lammas) and Total Excess (Coleman) worked well together over the same distance in 1:08 and 39.8. 

Musical Blues (Coleman), who runs in the Bonecrusher Stakes on Saturday, and Ocean Go (Karlsson), a first starter at Matamata on Friday, did sound work over 1000m in 1:08and 39.2. Promising two-year-old Aotea Lad (Rusof), a likely runner in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham, was paired with Byzantine (Miller) over 800m in 57.2 and 41.1.

Ellerslie runner Andoyas (Loon) and Matamata entry Perroquet (Osborne) recorded 1:07.7 and 40.5 over 1000m, while Short Fuse (Hashizume) prepared for Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:07 and 40.2, and Autumn Wild (Yanagida) ran time in 1:04.4 and 37.2.

Matamata entry Gris Dame (Nason) went with Supera (Donoghue) over 1200m in 1:23.1, with the last 1000m in 1:07.6 and 600m in 40. Also over ground, On The Rocks (Ashcroft) and Rumour Mill (Pilley) returned 1:21.6, 1:07.4 and 40.5, Gold Spice (Hashizume) 1:20.8, 1:07 and 40.8, and Elegant Bureau (Miller) 1:25.3, 1:08.5 and 40.2.

Incantesimo (Handley) and Ensoie (Mithen) covered 1200m in 1:25.9, 1:09.8 and 41.3, All Knitted Up (Ashcroft) and Iridessa (Pilley) took 1:23.2, 1:09.1 and 40.9, and Swiss Maid (Handley) and Flying Trapeze (Hashizume) 1:25.1, 1:08.9 and 41.4.

Over 1000m Savy Yong Blanc (Nason) and Lady Jess (Rusof) clocked 1:12.5 and 40.6, Divine Duke (Osborne) 1:09.4 and 40.5, and Luminous (Rusof) and Not Usual Dream (Miller). 1:10.5 and 41.

On the sand Lady Painton (P Turner) and Gwendolyn Rose (Newman) had pace on throughout 1000m in 1:01.5 and 35.8. Mahalo (Handley) and Raspberry Sweet (Hashizume) also got through her work well to record 1:02.7 and 35.8, as did Morea (Yanagida) in 1:04.8 and 36.9 and All About Time (Miles) and Master Marbridou (M Brosnan) in 1:02.8 and 36.2.
