Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Horses with engagements at Saturday's big Te Rapa meeting were the focus in training at Matamata this morning.

BCD Group Sprint entry Melody Belle (T Harris) galloped impressively on the plough with Queen of the Air (Miller), completing 1000m in 1:03.3 and finishing off with a smart final 600m in 35.7. Trainer Jamie Richards is satisfied that Melody Belle has bounced back from her inexplicably below-par performance in the Telegraph and is anticipating a big effort in this weekend's weight-for-age assignment. Stablemate Queen of the Air is ready for a bold fresh-up run at Awapuni on Friday.

Charles Road (Grylls) shaped up well for the Herbie Dyke
Stakes when he and Waikato Guineas entry Ocean Go (Miles) got through 1200m in
1:17.2, 1000m in 1:03.8 and 600m in 37. Both horses look very bright ahead of
the weekend.

Tiptronic (Coleman) prepared for the Herbie Dyke in company
with promising stablemate Sponge Bob (Parma) over 1200m in 1:17.4, 1:03 and
36.2. The weight-for-age conditions will test Tiptronic but he looks fit and
well for his middle-distance debut. Last-start winner Sponge Bob is also down
to run at Te Rapa.

Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic rivals Sunny Rose (P Turner) and Savy Yong Blonk (Nason) got through their work well over 1200m in 1:16.1, 1:01.4 and 36.2.

On the course proper, where the going was dead 15 metres
out, On The Rocks (Bayliss) and Arrogant (Lammas) were well matched over 1200m
in 1:23.2, 1:07.4 and 37.9. On The Rocks runs in the Herbie Dyke Stakes, while
Arrogant also steps up in distance for the Waikato Guineas.

Imelda Mary (Lammas) and Watch This Space (Danis) caught
the eye as they prepared for their respective engagements in the Sir Tristram
Fillies' Classic and BCD Sprint over 1000m in 1:06 and 36.8. The Boy Wonder
(Bayliss) and Nerve Not Verve (Lammas) strode over 1200m in 1:21.5, 1:07 and
37.6. Nerve Not Verve, runner-up in both her starts to date, is an entry for
the Fillies' Classic.

On the all-weather track Bit Lippy (R Cole) was well
contained over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 40.4, while The Glint (S McKay) was timed
over 800m in 52.6 and 37.8.

Back on the plough, Te Rapa two-year-old candidate Moeraki (Coleman) got through his work well with a Magnus gelding (R Jones) over 800m in 50.6 and 36.8. Te Rapa entries Bravissimo (Fawcett) and Harlow (Grylls) also looked smart over 1000m in 1:03.5 and 36.4.

Cha Siu Bao (Tappin) and Patch Prince (Grylls) left 1000m
behind in 1:04.2 and 36.8, while O'Hara (S Collett) covered the same ground in
1:09.2 and 40.4, and Bridal Veil (Bayliss) took 1:13.6 and 40.8.

Our King Sway (Tynan) was paired with a gelding by Thewayyouare (Olney) over 1200m in 1:26.5, 1:09.3 and 41. All Roads (S Collett), who is making good progress towards his first start for Cody Cole, left 1000m behind in 1:03.9 and 37.6.
