Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Volpe Veloce and Watch This Space shaped up well at Matamata this morning ahead of Saturday's Japan-NZ International Trophy. On the course proper, which was dead 18 metres out, Volpe Veloce (Coleman) strode out impressively over 1200m in 1:20.8, with her last 1000m in 1:04.6 and 600m in 37.7. The Richardson/Parker-trained mare blotted her copybook when unplaced on soft ground in the Haunui Farm Group One Classic at Otaki, but has the class to bounce back in this weekend's Tauranga feature.

Race rival Watch This Space (Hillis) drew attention to his
prospects when he and stablemate Nothing Trivial (Danis) were paired in strong
work on the dead plough, cutting out 1200m in 1:16.8, 1:02.2 and 35.6.

Tauranga candidates Together (S McKay) and Lady Verve
(Kamaruddin) hit out freely over 1000m in 1:03 and 36.6, while Star Treasure
(Yanagida) was more restrained to return 1:08.4 and 39.2.

Tiptronic (Hashizume) and Paisley Park (Khan) strode over
1200m in 1:20.2, 1:05.5 and 38. Tiptronic is a possible runner in the Japan-NZ
trophy. Sunburst (McCall) prepared for Tauranga with 1000m in 1:06.1 and 39.4,
while Amarula (S McKay) continued his progress when unextended over the same
distance in 1:11.9 and 41.2.

Bit Lippy (R Cole) and The Garrison (Danis) were allowed a
steady 1000m in 1:11 and 38.5, The Arabian Duke (H McQuade) returned 1:10.8 and
41.6, and Kurt (P Turner) and Rangitata (Coleman) took 1:14.6 and 42.2.

On the course proper Arrogant (Bayliss) did sound work
ahead of his Rosehill Guineas mission, striding over 1200m in 1:25.9, 1:09.7
and 39.

On the all-weather track No Finer Pins (Tynan) looked in
good form for Tauranga as she cut out 1000m in 1:03.4 and 35.5, while
stablemate Virtuoso Lad (Coleman) ran the same trip in 1:04 and 36.5.

The Mitigator (P McKay) and The Glint (S McKay) also enhanced their Tauranga prospects with bold work over 1000m in 1:02.5 and 36.4. Barcelo (P McKay) and a Shamexpress gelding (S McKay) left 1000m behind in 1:05.2 and 36.4.
