Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Equinox drew attention to his Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes prospects when he overshadowed pre-post favourite Yourdeel in training at Matamata this morning.

On the plough Equinox (Miller) and Yourdeel (Bosson) were sent over 1000m, which they cut out in 1:03.4 and the final 600m in 36.5. Equinox, the winner of two of his three starts, clearly had the better of the last-start Sistema Stakes winner in what was an impressive gallop by the Exceed And Excel colt ahead of Saturday's Awapuni Group One feature.

Rider Opie Bosson and trainer Jamie Richards were perplexed by Yourdeel's below-par gallop, having been well satisfied with his progress since his Group One Ellerslie win.

“Apart from what we just saw everything else about him has been fine, his bloods are good and he's very bright,” Richards said. “We'll keep pushing on for now and see how he looks in a bit of three-quarter-pace work on Thursday.”

Intermittent fog prevented timing of a number of gallops
and sectional timing of others, including Sydney-bound Vengeur Masque, who Jake
Bayliss took over ground on the dead course proper.

He was able to be timed only over 1200m, which he cut out
in 1:22.1 and hit the line full of running. Vengeur Masque is entered for
Saturday's Tancred Stakes at Rosehill ahead of the Sydney Cup a fortnight
later.

Also on the course proper, Manawatu Classic entry Nerve Not
Verve (Bayliss) impressed in her work with Iridessa (S McKay) over a solidly
run 1200m in 1:17.6, with the last 1000m in 1:04.1 and 600m in 37.4.

On the plough Manawatu Classic rivals Taming The Shrew (Yanagida) and Golden Age (Bosson) looked the part in recording 1:20.2 for 1200m and 36.7 for their final 600m.

Vichy (Coleman) impressed when preparing for Ellerslie on
the weekend with a smart 1200m in 1:18.2, 1:03 and 36.9. Charles Road (Grylls)
continued his Sydney Cup preparation with a well-held 1200m in 1:24.4. He ran
the last 1000m in 1:07.8 but no other sectional could be taken.

Ellerslie sprint entry Yearn (S McKay) cut out 1000m freely in 1:04.4, while Boutonniere (A Jones) prepared for the Ellerslie two-year-old race with 1000m in 1:03.8 and 36.8. Paisley Park (Hashizume) and Angelica (Parma) covered the same ground in 1:07.2, Mariota (Fawcett) 1:08.9, and Master Poet (M Brosnan) 1:09.5.

All Roads (S Collett) was kept to 1:10.8 and 40.2 over
1000m, Chadsdale (Cox) returned 1:09.5 and 40, and Code Cracker (Coleman)
1:13.5.

On the all-weather track Awapuni runners Cavallo Veloce (P
McKay) and Langkawi (S McKay) were timed over 1000m in 1:05.2 and 36.8. Veine
D'Or (Winters) was well held over 1000m in 1:10.8, while Ugo Foscolo
(Seivwright), who is now with Stephen Autridge, strode the final 600m of his
work in 39.
