Matamata Tuesday Trackwork
28 May, 2019
Ellerslie weekend candidates Burgundy Belle and Shoshone caught the eye when working together at Matamata this morning.
Galloping on the course proper, where the footing was slow 18 metres out, Burgundy Belle (T Harris) and Shoshone (Lammas) were well matched over 1000m in 1:07.8, finishing off with 600m in 38.9. Burgundy Belle has trained on well from her Trentham win and runs in another three-year-old 1400 on Saturday, while the Kelso-trained filly Shoshone has impressive trial form ahead of her debut in the Ellerslie two-year-old race.
Hello M'Lady (Lammas) appeared to enjoy her work over 1200m in 1:20.6, with the last 1000m in 1:06.1 and 600m in 38.6. The Vicki Prendergast-trained mare is coming to hand well and will line up at Ellerslie on Saturday given suitable footing.
Shelley Bee (K McQuade) was also impressive in similar work ahead of the weekend, cutting out 1200m in 1:20.8, 1:06.6 and 38, while Roll The Gold (Newman) was strong at the line as he and Billy The Kid (Rika) completed 1000m in 1:07.2 and 39.
Etah James (Tynan) shaped as a likely improver for Saturday's Cornwall Handicap when she strode over the final 1200m of her work in 1:21.2, 1:07 and 40.2. Also over ground, Master Poet (M Brosnan) took 1:22.3, 1:08.5 and 40.4 for his last 1200m, while Andoyas (C Grylls) returned 1:26.4, 1:10.6 and 40.2.
Sasso Corbaro (T Harris) was keen in her work over 1000m in 1:05 and 38.4. Harlech (McCall) and Tiny Terror (Lammas) were unextended over the same distance in 1:12.2 and 41.2, while Our Ellie May (Donoghue) got through 1000m in 1:14.4 and 44.2.
On the sand Pleeze Bee (K McQuade) prepared for Ellerslie with a smart hitout over 1200m in 1:16.2, 1:01.6 and 35.8. Stablemate The Arabian Duke (H McQuade) was given sharp work ahead of Monday's McGregor Grant Steeplechase, cutting out 1000m in 1:06 and 38.2.
Suliman (Danis) strode over 1200m in 1:19.9 and 39.8, while Tweedledee (C Grylls) ran the same trip in 1:23 and 38.3.
Woodsman (T Gillies) did striding work on the all-weather track before finishing off with 1200m in 1:24.3 and 600m in 39.5. He has thrived since his impressive jumps debut and will line up in the K S Browne Hurdle at Ellerslie on Monday.
