Matamata Tuesday Trackwork
3 March, 2020
Members of the in-form Jamie Richards/Te Akau team looked on target for further Group One assignments during a busy Matamata training session ahead of Ellerslie on Saturday.
Bonecrusher Stakes rivals Avantage (Bosson) and Prise de Fer (Burdan) were in impressive form on the plough, where they cut out 1200m in 1:16.8, 1000m in 1:01.5 and the final 600m in 36.4. Both have trained on pleasingly since their Haunui Farm Group One Classic quinella. Avantage in particular will be an interesting runner in her quest to add a 2000-metre Group One to go with her Telegraph and Otaki wins.
Karaka Million winner Cool Aza Beel (Bosson) looked the part ahead of the Sistema Stakes when he and Trentham entry Top Brass (Burdan) cut out a smart 1000m in 1:02.6 and 36. The Stephen Autridge-trained pair Kelly Renee (Grylls) and Laced With Gold (Ravi) prepared for the Sistema Stakes over 1000m in 1:04.4 and 36.2.
Tiptronic (Wratten) and Paisley Park (T Thornton), Graham Richardson's
respective candidates for the Bonecrusher Stakes and Auckland Cup, were paired
in solid work over ground, the last 1200m in 1:17.3, 1:02.5 and 36.2.
Joe's Legacy (K Price) prepared for the Auckland Cup with striding work,
rolling into his last 1200m in 1:25, 1:09.2 and 41.8. The Jason Price-trained
gelding looks very well. Race rival Etah James was taken over two rounds of the
big sand by raceday jockey Shaun McKay, quickening from the 1000m in 1:09.5 and
38.4.
Melbourne visitor Sound (Lammas) prepared for the Auckland Cup on the
course proper, where the going was good 18m out, striding out boldly over his
last 1200m in 1:17.2, 1:03.8 and a deceptive final 600m in 36.8. The
German-bred entire has settled in well at Ballymore Matamata and will be ridden
in Saturday's two-miler by regular jockey James Winks.
Stablemate On The Rocks (Lammas) was paired with the maiden Power's That
Be (S McKay) over 1200m in 1:19.4, 1:04.4 and 36.6. On the Rocks is in good
order for the Bonecrusher Stakes. Sistema Stakes entry Snapper (Lammas) went
with Let Me Tell Ya (S McKay) over 1000m in 1:06.5 and 36.8. Le Sablier
(S Weatherley) was unextended working solo ahead of Ellerslie over 1200m in
1:21.7, 1:06.9 and 38.7.
Back on the plough, Holsty (Coleman) caught the eye over 1000m in 1:03.4 and 35.8, as did Trentham two-year-old candidate Pazienza (Bosson) who was paired with a Casino Prince colt (Coleman) over 800m in 50.1 and 37.2. Race rival Everdeen (P Turner) was timed over 800m in 51.9 and 37.
Cha Siu Bao (Yanagida) prepared for Ellerslie with 1200m in 1:19.6 and 36.2, while Vichy (T Thornton) ran the same trip in 1:21 and 38.5, and Savy Yong Blonk (Bosson) and Crafty Eva (Coleman) 1:22.7 and 37.6. Livin On A Prayer (Danis) and The Garrison (Kozaki) were in good form over 1000m in 1:02.9 and 36.5, En Soie (T Thornton) and Light Brocade (Wratten) took 1:04 and 38.4, and Age Of Fire (Burdan) and She's Not Bad (Bosson) 1:03.7 and 37.4.
Unbeaten filly Levante (Coleman), who runs next in the Wellington Guineas on Saturday week, was well held over 1000m in 1:15.8 and 44.1, as was race rival Our Alley Cat (S McKay) recording 1:10.6, 39.9. On the big sand Americo (S McKay) went solo over 1000m in 1:04.8 and 37.5.
