Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Bounding looked the part for Saturday's Mr Tiz Trophy when she took time honours at Matamata this morning.

On a good plough, Bounding (K Jones) was partnered by her unraced stablemate Packing Eagle (Coleman) over 1000m in 1:00.9 and stopped the clock with a final 600m in 35. The most impressive aspect of the gallop was that Bounding was still on the bit at the line and could easily have gone even faster.

Last week's Matamata trial win has the Railway Handicap winner back at full fitness for Saturday's three-year-old sprint. Packing Eagle, a gelding by Pins in the Kelso stable, was impressive last week when extending his trial record to three wins from as many starts and this morning's work ensured he will be a hot favourite when he steps out at next week's South Waikato meeting on his home track.

Angelica Hall (Hercock), another running in the Mr Tiz Trophy, was impressive when she and Bronte Lass (Miller) cut out 1200m in 1:16.6, 1000m in 1:01.2 and 600m in 35.5. Angelica Hall is unbeaten after two pre-Christmas starts and has taken a lot of improvement out of a recent trial outing.

Likely Ellerslie final day runners Revelator (C Ormsby) and Makarska (Coleman) were well matched over the last 1000m of their work in 1:03.9 and 600m in 36.3. Jubilate (Hutton) and Copacabana (Sapsworth) underlined their weekend prospects with a smart 1000m gallop in 1:03.6 and 36.1.

Precious Time (Myers) shaped up well for the weekend as she left 1200m behind in 1:17.8, with the last 1000m in 1:02.8 and 600m in 35.8. Taaxman (R Jones) was not after time striding over 1200m in 1:23.5, 1:07 and 41.2, while Silverdale (Colgan) prepared for Ellerslie with a tidy 1000m in 1:08.2 and 39.

Last start winner Only A Rose (A Jones) was unextended when cutting out 1000m in 1:06.6 and 37, while Always On My Mind (R Jones) returned 1:07.7 and 38.6, Resume (B Grylls) 1:05.3 and 37.8, Goldie (Goodwin) 1:05.6 and 37.5, and Witz End (J Collett) 1:07.2 and 38.6.

Kaleidoscope (O'Sullivan) travelled up well at the end of 1200m in 1:20.8, 1:05.4 and 36.7. Over the same ground Little Chief (M Brosnan) took 1:20.6, 1:05.2 and 38.5, and Ekraarstatic (C Grylls) 1:20.9, 1:05.9 and 38.6. Intermittent fog disrupted the timing of some gallops, including I'll'ava'alf (A Jones) over 1200m in 1:26.9 and 1000m in 1:11.2.

Destroyer (C Grylls) was let off with 1000min 1:12.7 and 43, while in similar work Dezignator (W Hillis) took 1:13.8 and 42.6, and Sophisticate (Coleman) 1:12.2 and 41.2. Ginja Ninja (C Grylls), now with Graham Richardson, was timed over her last 600m in 38.5.

On the all-weather track, Auckland Cup topweight Travolta looked bright as he got through pacework. The Gai Waterhouse-trained stayer appears to have thrived since arriving from Australia on Friday.

Terse (Myers) covered the last 1200m of her work in 1:21.5 and 1000m in 1:07.5, Wisecrack was timed over 1000m in 1:06.2, and King Piccolo (K Hillis) covered 1000m in 1:07.6 and 39.7.
