Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

The Hotz and Crown Of Thorns drew attention to their weekend prospects with a smart gallop in company at Matamata this morning.

Working 25 metres out on a soft course proper, The Hotz (Grant) set off to run 1200m in 1:25.6, picking up Crown Of Thorns (Waddell) for the last 1000m in 1:10 and 600m in 40.5. The Moroney-Ormsby-trained pair hit the line strongly. The Hotz has trained on well from his last start maiden win and will step up to Rating 65 grade at Te Rapa, while Crown Of Thorns will run in the open 1400.

Likely rival Spare A Fortune (P Turner) was partnered by Te Rapa two-year-old entry I Gotta Hunch (Ulcinar) over 1200m in 1:24.5, 1000m in 1:08.1 and the final 600m in a respectable 39.4. Beauty Show (R Jones) and Beauty Ahead) prepared for Te Rapa over 1200m, going keenly in the early stages to run the full distance 1:19.3, 1000m in 1:06.1 and the last 600m in 40.3.

Workmans (Blair) got through his work well over 1000m in 1:07.9 and 600m in 39.8, while Cold Snap (Miller) was not pressured to cover the same distance in 1:10.2 and 40.4. A Soldier's Song (Goodwin), who resumes from a long break at Te Rapa, worked against the rail in the five-metre position, where he cut out a smart 1000m in 1:05.2 and 600m in 37.4.

Stablemates from the Toby Autridge-Cyril Goodwin also heading to Te Rapa did solid work on the all-weather track, where Boy (Goodwin) left 1000m behind in 1:03.2 and 36.4, and Le Bon Fin (R Jones) and Sky Hi Baby (Goodwin) returned 1:02.5 and 37.

Te Rapa entries The Raconteur (J Price) and Leica Queen (Grylls) were accompanied by a Don Eduardo gelding (P Turner) over 1000m in 1:07.4 and 600m in 37.8.

On the sand, last start winner Paterson Road (Rodd) and recent two-year-old trial winner Ogilvie (Grylls) tuned up for Te Rapa with tidy work over 1000m in 1:03.5 and 600m in 36.4.

Schrodingers Cat (R Jones) wasn't after time when striding over 1000m in 1:09.4 and 600m in 39.5. He appears to have thrived since breaking through for his maiden win. Centavada (Retter) and Kilmorack (P Turner) rounded off their 1000m in 1:10.2 and 600m in 38.2.

Over the same ground Kansas (Sapsworth) and Storm Bro (Chiong) clocked 1:06.4 and 38.6, Clio (Roff) and Femme Du Lune (M Brosnan) 1:04.2 and 36.5, and Choice One Jonesy (H McQuade) 1:07.5 and 38.3.

Agent Ziva (A Jones) was strong in her work over 1000m, recording 1:05.6 and 36.4 in preparation for Te Rapa. Vitali (Brown) strode over 1200m in 1:24.5, with his last 600m in 40.2, Xalted (Waddell) ran the same trip in 1:28.4 and 41.2, Sedgwick (O'Sullivan) took 1:27.8 and 43, and Imagine (Waddell) 1:25.8 and 40.2.
