Brisbane-bound Costa Viva (Cameron) worked right-handed on the course proper with Te Rapa entry Quintette (Forbes), picking up the tempo through 1200m to run the distance in 1:25.2 and the final 600m in 39.
On the all-weather track Te Aroha visitors Uncle Sugar (Cook) and Piqueson (Archer) caught the eye as they prepared for Te Rapa with a dashing 1000m in 1:01.4 and 35.4. Over the same distance Culto La Vida (S McKay) worked up well for the weekend in 1:03 and 37.6.
