Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Heavy fog again disrupted trackwork at Matamata this morning, with minimal timing of horses preparing for weekend racing at Te Rapa and Awapuni.

Before the fog came down, Bronte Lass (Hercock) looked sharp for her Te Rapa engagement when she cut out a slick 1000m on the all-weather track in 1:03.3 and the final 600m in 36.1. The Jason Bridgman-trained mare has kicked off a new campaign in good style with a trial win followed by a close second on her home track last month.

Le Bon Fin, who makes a fresh start at Te Rapa, was not after time when co-trainer Cyril Goodwin took him over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 38.5. The in-form Kelso stablemates Makarska (K Jones) and Irish Moon (B Grylls), who race next at Ellerslie on Saturday week, were kept to three-quarter-pace over 1000m in 1:14.8.

No timing was possible of any gallops on the course proper, where the going was slow, but among those who appeared to be working well when they emerged from the fog were Awapuni runners Copacabana, Cass King and Inis Rose. Enhance, Quintette and Brave Centaur also drew attention to their Te Rapa prospects with sound work.
