Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Fastfoot prepared for his middle-distance debut at Hastings on the weekend with sound work at Matamata this morning.

Ridden on the sand by his co-trainer Hayden Allen, Fastfoot strode over ground to complete his last 1200m in 1:18.2 with the final 1000m in 1:04 and 600m in 37.5. The Iffraaj gelding takes solid form into the open 2100-metre event at Hastings on Saturday and looks fit for the task.

Stablemate Revenge (Allen) also got through his work well, cutting out his 1200m in 1:21.5, 1:06.7 and 39. He has gone two handy races over hurdles and runs in maiden grade at Hastings.

Resonance (Hercock) and Political Nitemare (Beebee) were paired over 1000m in 1:05.9 and 38.2, while Darting (W Hillis) covered the same distance in 1:05.5 and 37.4.

Hawke's Bay Steeplechase candidate I'm Isaac (A Jones) was given two separate pieces of work, beginning by striding over ground and completing 1200m in 1:27.9 and 600m in 42.2. Several minutes later he worked at a faster tempo, with the last 1000m taking 1:08.8 and his 600m in 39.6.

Atom Cat (Sapsworth), who is getting close to raceday fitness, looked bright in his work over 1200m in 1:30.4 and 43.6. In similar assignments Elroi (K Shailer) returned 1:31.5 and 44.7, and Fast 'N' Gorgeous (Sapsworth) 1:31.6 and 44.6.

On the course proper, which was heavy 26 metres out, Sneaky Feelings (Hercock) set off from the winning post and was timed from the 1200m in 1:25.8. After being joined at the 1000m by Enhance (Cameron), the Bridgman pair got home in 1:11.1 and 40.5 for the final 600m. Enhance will be entered for Hastings but along with Sneaky Feelings is more likely to run at next Monday's local meeting.

Ruakaka entries Mizbella (Leveque) and Sophie's Gem (Dowling) covered the last 1000m of their work in 1:10.8 and 600m in 41.9. Traveller (B Grylls), who runs next at Te Rapa on Saturday week, was partnered by unraced stablemate Packing Chaparral (R Jones) over 1000m in 1:10 and 600m in 38.8.

On the all-weather track Hastings maiden hurdle entry Tequila At Midnite (A Jones) was sent 1200m in 1:25.1, with the last 1000m in 1:10.9 and 600m in 41.4. Prince Of Patch (B Grylls) and Chaos (K Jones) were not extended over 1000m in 1:15.8 and 600m in 42.6.
