Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Promising maiden gallopers Packing Chaparral and Yes confirmed their fitness for upcoming engagements when they worked soundly together at Matamata this morning.

Galloping 22 metres out on a heavy course proper, Packing Chaparral (R Jones) and Yes (J Wong) covered 1000m in 1:11.6, with their final 600m in 41.4. Packing Chaparral, the close relation to So You Think, has made good progress since his debut second late last month, while lightly raced four-year-old Yes is in good order for his first start since finishing second back in the summer.  Both horses have the option of running at their home track meeting on Friday or at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Letmeby (Coleman) turned in a solid trial for Te Rapa when he led Matamata candidate Quantum Maelstrom (Sapsworth) at the end of 1200m in 1:24.2, with their last 1000m in 1:09.7 and 600m in 41.8.
Waitoki Flower (Dowling) and Sophie's Gem (C Grylls) had first use of the track when paired over 1200m in 1:27.6, 1:11.8 and 41.9, while Sunbeam (A Jones) and Maestro Tom (Coleman) also impressed over the same ground in 1:27.4, 1:11.5 and 41.7.

Vibrant Moss (K Shailer), a form runner for New Plymouth on the weekend, galloped against the running rail in the 10-metre position over 1000m in 1:10.6 and 41.5. She looks well. Pockets (Hercock), another in-form candidate New Plymouth, did smart work over 1000m in 1:10.8 and 600m in 40.9.

Secret Whisper (Cameron) and Sneaky Feelings (A Jones) strode over 1200m in 1:24.6, 1000m in 1:09.1 and 600m in 40.8. Secret Whisper looks bright after a recent bold hurdle trial and runs at Te Rapa, while his stablemate will race locally.

Mr Mendelssohn (C Grylls) shaped as a likely improver when he worked with Rongphilly (K McQuade) over 1200m in 1:26, 1:11.4 and 43.5. Political Nitemare (C Grylls) and Prize Lad (Maa) prepared for their local meeting with sound work over 1200m in 1:24.8, 1:09.1 and 41.2.

Smart rising four-year-olds Spellbinder (Cameron) and King's Rock (Miller) continued their new season preparation when quickening from the 800m in 1:00.6 and 600m in 44.3.

On the sand He's Dan (Brick) and Iffitel (A Jones) got through solid work over 1000m in 1:04.5 and 600m in 38.4. He's Dan returns to Te Rapa where he won well at his last start, while promising juvenile Iffitel may run next in the Ruder Stakes later this month.

Matamata candidate Vettel (S McKay) worked in company with Canterino (P McKay) over 1200m in 1:17.5, 1:03.5 and 37.4, while Kakahu Nell (Roff) and Clio (M Brosnan) prepared for Friday with a smart 1000m in 1:03.2 and 600m in 36.8. Covered 'N Bay (H McQuade) ran the same distance in 1:05 and 39.4, and Agent Ziva (A Jones) was keen in 1:11.3 and 40.1.

Fairy Cake (C Grylls) covered 1200m in 1:22.6, 1:08.2 and 39. Smart two-year-old Divissima (C Ormsby) ran in from the 800m in 51.3, with the last 600m in 36.4.

Fog affected the timing of several other gallops, among them Roll With Pulse (Coleman), who recorded 1:09.6 for 1000m, and Impatient Dreams (K McQuade) and Kinda Leica (H McQuade), who took 1:08.4. Super Thunder (A Wright) was timed over 1200m in 1:25.2 and 1000m in 1:09.7.

On the all-weather track Le Bon Fin (R Jones) covered the last 1000m of his work in 1:06.2 and 600m in 38.5. Abyssinian Maid (Wilson) ran the same trip in 1:11.6 and 41.2, while Pussy O'Reilly (Rastrick) was allowed to roll up over 1000m in 1:16.6 and 39.8.
