Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Dennis Ryan was at the foggy Matamata track this morning and reports:

Thrive and Urban Angel underlined their fitness for weekend assignments at opposite ends of the North Island when they worked well at Matamata this morning.

Once again heavy fog prevented the timing of almost all gallops during the session, including the only course proper hitout when Thrive (Walters) and Urban Angel (Cameron) were matched up in solid work over ground. The Jason Bridgman-trained pair emerged from the fog travelling well in the heavy conditions, with Thrive marginally ahead at the line.

Thrive was disappointing in her last start after two promising efforts at the start of her campaign, but looks well and could easily bounce back in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham. Urban Angel has trained on well from her last start Ruakaka win and will return north for the step up to a middle-distance on Saturday.

She will be accompanied by two-year-old first starter All Decked Out, a colt by Darci Brahma from the very talented Diamond Deck, while Fastnet Rock three-year-old Fast Fiction, an impressive winner on debut last month, will complete Bridgman's weekend team in the special conditions maiden at Trentham.

Among the handful of gallops that could be timed at least in part, Ruakaka-bound Le Bon Fin impressed when co-trainer Cyril Goodman let him stretch out over1200m on the all-weather track in 1:16.8. Promising filly Kirramosa (Forbes) looked bright running home over her final 600m in 38.2.

On the sand the John Sargent-trained pair Revenge (Forbes) and Fastfoot (Hepi) finished together at the end of 1200m in 1:16.2. They are scheduled to race at New Plymouth on Saturday week.
