Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Wanganui Guineas candidates Elitist and Hilarious Honour underlined their fitness for Saturday's three-year-old feature when they returned good time in training at Matamata this morning.

Elitist (Swann) and Hilarious Honour (K Myers) were well matched over 1000m on the course proper, which was slow with the markers out 18 metres. The pair began steadily to cover the distance in 1:07.2 and when asked to extend in the straight returned a smart 36.9 for their final 600m.

The Glenn Old-trained Elitist looked good when winning on debut on his home track early last month, while Hilarious Honour, a member of the Shailer team, was narrowly beaten in his only start at Woodville a fortnight ago.

Two more heading to Wanganui, the Graham Richardson-trained Douro (C Grylls) and Nectacolecta (Sapsworth), were not extended over 1000m in 1:09.2 and 600m in 39.8. Douro runs in the Guineas, while his stablemate will start in the O'Leary's Fillies' Stakes.
