Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Class racemare Xanadu confirmed her fitness for Saturday's Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate with a rousing gallop at Matamata this morning.

Working 22 metres on a slow course proper with regular rider Michael Coleman in the saddle, Xanadu cut out 1000m in 1:07.4 and bounded to the finish with a final 600m section in 37.4. Even allowing that she had first use of the track it was very impressive work by the Ken and Bev Kelso-trained mare, who is in forward condition for the Te Rapa feature.

Copacabana (Sapsworth) prepared for Te Rapa when working with Taupo Monday candidate Roc De Chine (Chiong) over 1000m in 1:07.3 and 600m in 39.5. Glitzabeel (M Brosnan) also impressed in her work for Te Rapa, leading Kakahu Nell (Roff) to the end of 1200m in 1:23.9, with the last 1000m in 1:09 and 600m in 42.2.

Goyescas (Miller) and Rapid Gain (Stack), two members of Jason Bridgman's strong Taupo contingent, strode over 1200m in 1:24.6, 1000m in 1:09.3 and 600m in 39.5. Stablemates Fast Fiction (Stack) and Dreamer Miller) left 1000m behind in 1:11.3 and 600m in 40.2. Te Rapa entrant Gospel (C Ormsby) worked solo over 1200m in 1:24.5, with his last 1000m in 1:09.3 and 600m in 39.7.

On the all-weather track several members of the McKay team caught the eye as their spring preparations were stepped up. Puccini (P McKay) and Joey Massino (S McKay) were paired in a slick gallop over 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 36.2, while Jimmy Hoffa (P McKay) and Kick Buttowski (S McKay) did similar work in 1:02.8 and 36.7.

Wisecrack (K Jones), who is making good progress in the early stages of his new preparation, covered the last 1200m of his work in 1:19.6, 1000m in 1:05 and 600m in 37.5. Rosenellis (Blair) ran the same distance in 1:23.3, 1:08.8 and 40.2, while Powerplaya (Coleman) and a Guillotine filly (K Jones) were held to 1000m in 1:13 and 40.6.

Payday (W Hillis), Levantos (K Hillis) and a Volksraad gelding (Ulucinar) went together over 1000m in 1:05.5 and 600m in 38. Te Aroha visitor One Above (Smith) strode over 1200m in 1:23.2, 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 39.

Ravello (J McKay) and Antonia Lombardo (P McKay) were timed over 800m in 56.6 and 600m in 40.2, while Villifye (Sapsworth) ran in from the 600m in 41.3.

On the sand Excuse Me Madam (Brown) caught the eye as she prepared for Te Rapa, cutting out 1200m in 1:20.2, 1000m in 1:04.7 and 600m in a smart 36.6. Stablemate Vitali (Brown) ran the same trip in 1:24.4, 1:06.8 and 38.4.

La Tourneau (Forbes), who is now with Danica Guy, was paired with a Fast 'N' Famous filly over 1000m in 1:08.7 and 600m in 37.5. Tiger Moss (P Turner) looked bright in her 1000m in 1:10.9 and 38.9, while Volcano (Dowling) ran the same distance in 1:09.6 and 41.8 and Beauty Humour (S Wong) took 1:08.4 and 39.2.

All Decked Out (Miller) and O'Darci (Stack) were timed over 800m in 56.4 and 600m in 40.8. The promising pair will start next at the Te Teko trials in two weeks' time. Taoist Master (Roff) ran his 800m in 50.7, getting home well over the last 600m in 36.5.
