24 March, 2015
Aotearower looked ready for a step up in class at Awapuni this weekend when she galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning. Galloping solo on the plough with raceday rider Michael Coleman on board, Aotearower had pace on from the 1200-metre mark, running that distance in 1:18.3, 1000m in 1:03.2 and the final 600m in 36.8. The Kelso-trained filly has thrived since her deserved maiden win and gets the chance for black-type form in Saturday's Manawatu Classic.
Strata Lady (Hong) and Irish Encore (Grylls) underlined their Awapuni feature race prospects with smart work over 1000m in 1:01.6 and 600m in 36.2. Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes entry Strata Lady has looked sharp with blinkers fitted since her Diamond Stakes fifth.
Jubilate (Sapsworth) drew attention to his weekend prospects when he worked impressively over ground with Speedy Jax (E Rika), cutting out the last 1200m in 1:18.8, 1:04.5 and 37.3. Jubilate will be an interesting runner when he steps up to a middle-distance in the Awapuni Gold Cup.
Stablemates Deema (Sapsworth) and Douro (E Rika) looked ready for Rotorua on Friday when they left 1200m behind in 1:19.2, 1:04 and 37.4. Over the same ground Awapuni form runner Quintastics (Umis) began steadily to record 1:22.6 and quickened impressively for a final 600m in 35.6.
Awapuni open sprint entry Angelica Hall (Lammas) was travelling sweetly at the end of 1000m in 1:03.8 and 60m in 35.9. Fortune Road (J Collett) was also in good form running 1000m in 1:01.7 and 36.6, while Always On My Mind (Leveque) and Beauty Moment (Dowling) impressed with a solid 1200m in 1:14.7, 1:01.9 and 36.3.
Perfect Fit (Coleman) was paired with Sombreuil (Luke) in a tidy gallop over 1000m in 1:02.4 and 37.
Gardone (M Brosnan) and Moneymakehersmile (P Ormsby) ran the same trip in 1:04.7 and 38.6, while Rotorua runners Stralis (Hutton) and Sniper (Coleman) took 1:02 and 36.4 and Ambitious Power (Dowling) and Saoirse (Fraser-Hayes) 1:03.5 and 37.
Tiara Concerto (Grylls) and Funhouse (Sapsworth) were timed over 1000m in 1:05.9 and 36.7. Pussy O'Reilly (Wratten), who is being aimed at the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes on Saturday week, was kept to three-quarter-pace over 1200m in 1:28.8 and 42.6.
Costa Viva (Cameron) was well held in the early stages of her work as she strode over 1200m in 1:25.5, quickening over 1000m in 1:08.3 and 600m in 38. Stablemate Rockfast (Hercock) was slightly quicker in similar work over 1200m in 1:22.4, 1:06.6 and 38.
Arterial (P Ormsby) and Free And Bold (M Brosnan) did well over 1000m in 1:04.5 and 36.7. Living The Dream (Sapsworth) travelled up strongly at the end of her 1000m in 1:05.3 and 37. Rotorua entry Hardlee (A Jones) ran over the same ground in 1:06.6 and 38.6, Irish Heartbeat (Cole) returned 1:07.4 and 39, and Sharpshooter (A Jones) 1:09.2 and 41.
Galvanised (Dowling) and Morena (Fraser-Hayes) were not after time over 1200m in 1:23, 1:09.4 and 41.4, while Riddle (Wright) took 1:24.8, 1:06.2 and 38.9, Frock (Cameron) 1:25.8, 1:09.6 and 40.3, and Light Up A Screen (S Collett) 1:21, 1:04.9 and 36.8.
