Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

With trackwork taking place in high winds and horizontal rain, fast work was at a minimum at Matamata this morning, but Wanganui-bound fillies Stella Di Paco and Secret Spirit still drew attention to their weekend prospects.

Galloping right-handed on a sodden course proper, Stella Di Paco (Lammas) led Nectacolecta (Sapsworth) to the end of 1000m in 1:15.4, quickening up the back straight for a final 600m in 40.8. Stella Di Paco failed to manage the heavy conditions in her home track race last week, but looks in good order for the O'Learys' Fillies' Stakes at Wanganui.

Race rival and fellow two-year-old stakes winner Secret Spirit (Grylls) was paired with Keepherinmind (Coleman) as they worked into their task and ran their last 600m in 41.5. In similar work Stralis (Hutton) and Vibrant Moss (Holmes) rounded off their gallop with a smart final 600m in 40.4.

Whatwedo (R Jones) looked ready for bold fresh-up effort at Wanganui when he led Miss Elegante (A Jones) to the end of 800m in 57.2 and 600m in 41.6. Rose Of Virginia (Fraser-Hayes) and Lil Miss Waitoki (Leveque) were not pushed in their work, with a final 600m in 43.6.

Graphic (C Ormsby) was allowed to stride over 1200m at three-quarter-pace, cutting out the last 600m in 44.2, as he prepared for a possible start at Ellerslie on Saturday.
