Te Akau Wednesday Trackwork

Te Akau track work highlights Wednesday December 3

Plough:

Alchemy's Flight (Roff) and Sir Darci (Hercock) worked together over 1000m in 1:06.2, last 600m in 37.4

Esprit De Corps (Hercock) and 2 f Lookin at Lucky - Highland Lights (Miller) went 800m in 53.6, last 600m in 39.5. Rider Daniel Miller said: “Lookin at Lucky quickened up nicely. While not hard on the bridle wanting to do more, whenever I asked her to do more she didn't hesitate and kept giving. She has strengthened following a break and a lovely filly to ride. And the other one: Esprit De Corps (Bel Esprit) is quite a smart horse.

Splurge (Hercock) galloped 800m in 55, last 600m in 40.2. Enshrine (Samuelsson) and 2 f Thorn Park - Squall (Hercock) worked over 800m in 54.5, last 600m in 40.1.

Three-quarter pace on the plough:

Angelica Hall (Miller) 800m, Bronte Lass (Miller) 800m, Flaming (Hercock) 800m, Rockfast (Richards) 800m, Spellbinder (Hercock) 600m, Darci's Dream (Miller) 800m, Rapid Gain (Richards) 800m, Zarules (Miller) 600m, More Than Fast (Miller) and 2 g No Excuse Needed - Reputedly (Samuelsson) 600m, Cathedral Cove (Miller) and Hushed (Richards) 600m, Beacon of Hope (Hercock) and Rocksun (Miller) 600m, Enshrine (Samuelsson) and 2 f Thorn Park - Squall (Hercock).

Recently returned to work, after exuding plenty of the family talent to win two of her five starts and stakes place in her first campaign, Angelica Hall (Guillotine) pleased rider Daniel Miller:

“She relaxed and while she hops along in pace work as soon as she works at speed her stride quadruples in length and she gets down and really stretches out. It's the reason why she covers the ground so easily. She's bigger and stronger this time and hopefully she can keep on relaxing."

Miller was also impressed with Darci's Dream (Darci's Dream), who freshened following her top run for second in the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) at Riccarton. “She feels sensational and as good, if not better, than she did going into that race,” said Miller.

Purchased by David Ellis for $700,000 at the NZB Premier Sale in January, Rocksun (2 c Fastnet Rock - Beyond the Sunset), still physically developing in his second educational prep, was another to impress Miller. “He's a very nice horse and I like him,” said Miller. “Once up to speed he feels quite an athletic horse and he carries himself quite nicely when he's galloping. He's not really coltish towards other horses, but can be a bit boisterous on the lead - just playing.

Preparing to trial on Friday at Cambridge, Sequitur (3 c High Chaparral - Deduction), the sale topper bought by Ellis at the Ready to Run Sale last year, impressed Miller when working over 800 metres yesterday. “He galloped really well; he's switched on and loving it and he could go a huge trial.
