Matt Wants the Win
18 June, 2015
The NZ Racing Desk reports on the race for back-to-back Jockeys' Premiership honours for Te Akau stable rider Matthew Cameron ...
Matt Cameron is taking nothing for granted in his bid to defend his jockey's crown.
With 133 winners to his credit so far in 2014-15, he has a buffer of 11 on Danielle Johnson and he will continue to take every opportunity to make it back to back premierships.
“I'll try and keep it ticking over and I'll be going to Oamaru on Thursday, I've got seven rides down there as well.â€â€œIt's nice to have that lead, but there's still a long way to go and getting winners at this time of the year isn't easy,†said Cameron, who has seven bookings at Te Teko on Wednesday.
Cameron, who won last season's title with 143 winners, rode a hat-trick at Ruakaka on Saturday and took particular satisfaction from the debut victory of Hasselhoof.
The Tavistock three-year-old's ownership syndicate includes his partner Blair Alexander, who also has a share in the last-start Gr.2 Championship Stakes placegetter Vive La Difference.
“Hasselhoof is out of a Zabeel mare and he will make a really nice stayer if he stays in New Zealand,†Cameron said. “There are a few buyers around for him so I'm not sure what will happen.
“Vive La Difference is a top filly and she's going to be even better around Christmas time.â€
