We are very proud to introduce Nicole Shailer, Te Akau Racing New Zealand's Assistant Trainer.


Nicole, a dedicated and highly experienced professional, brings her passion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the Tangerine Team, making her a standout addition to the Te Akau senior leadership family.


Nicole's journey in the world of horses began early in life, and her profound love for these majestic animals has been a driving force throughout her career. Last year, her exceptional contribution was recognised when she was named New Zealand Stablehand of the Year at New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing’s Horse of the Year awards, reinforcing her status as one of the industry's top talents.


For the past seven years, Nicole has played a pivotal role as the senior stable foreperson, overseeing operations at Te Akau's Middle Barn in Matamata. Her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to the welfare of the horses under her care have set the gold standard for excellence.


Under Nicole's watchful eye, horses like Avantage, Melody Belle, and Probabeel have thrived and achieved remarkable success, underlining her outstanding horsemanship. Her promotion to Assistant Trainer is a testament to her exemplary work ethic and her dedication to industry excellence.


Nicole's new role as Assistant Trainer cements her as a cornerstone of Te Akau's senior management team, as she supports Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson while nurturing the next generation of racing talent. Nicole is known for her guidance and encouragement of emerging young people. Her passion for horses and her vast experience in the industry make her an invaluable asset, and her drive excellence in every area aligns perfectly with Te Akau's mission.


As we navigate the new season, we are excited to follow Nicole as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career. Her promotion underscores Te Akau Racing's commitment to recognising and promoting the exceptional talent within its ranks. Together with Mark and Sam and Racing Manager Reece Trumper, Nicole is poised to lead the Tangerine Team to new heights in the 2023/24 season and beyond - their shared passion and determination are sure to make them a formidable quartet.
