Yesterday was a great day for the cattle and horses that are lucky enough to call Te Akau Stud home as there was 22mls of rain overnight on top of the large amount last week.
As you could imagine this rain is doing wonders for the land at this time of the year resulting in stunning growing conditions which sees our bulls gaining around 2.1kgs a day!
Te Akau Stud is lucky to have plenty of grass to take advantage of at the moment which is a plus with the record beef prices. One unit that we sold last week (35 steers) made over $2,300 each animal so we can't make any apology for being excited as I have waited 35 years for these prices!
As explained earlier in the week Andrea Fox from Fairfax had done an interview on Te Akau's cattle as she had heard we have been weighing in at record weights - normally I am interviewed about horses, so it's huge thrill for me to be able to showcase the cattle at Te Akau Stud.
We had Peter Drury a photographer from the Waikato Times come to take some pictures for the article and were incredibly lucky that the sun decided to come out for 15 minutes just in time for the cattle's close up.
Later in the afternoon Jamie Richards and I went to inspect all horses spelling at Te Akau Stud who are looking great.
