NZ Blenheim Preview

Three Te Akau mares step out at Sunday's Marlborough meeting.

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the eight-race programme on Sunday April 28 at Marlborough.

As at 6:53am on Saturday April 26 the conditions were: fine and Slow7, rail in the True position.

3:19pm R6 5 Bronte Lass (4 m Stravinsky - Little Dorritt) - Lisa Allpress; has been freshened since recording two wins and two seconds from six starts in a solid campaign. At best on top of the ground thus far, her ability to act first up stands her in good stead on footing that should be improving and her only union with this rider brought about a smart win off a 193-day break over the same distance of 1400 metres.

3:54pm R7 9 Viana (4 m Volksraad - Hecuba) - Lisa Allpress; reached the lead mid-straight only to be claimed late when second on April 6 in the Benchmark 75 1800 metres at Riccarton. Improving footing will only increase her prospects in the Marlborough Cup (Open, 1950m) and she was a course/distance winner at the corresponding meet last year.

4:28pm R8 4 Sovereign Rose (5 m Pins - Pavan) - Lisa Allpress; got the job done with this rider aboard to win on April 11 in the Benchmark 65 2100 metres at Timaru. Remaining in the same grade over 1950 metres, she incurs a penalty to carry 57kgs. With her two wins coming on good ground the track conditions are going to play a part, but no worse than the current rating can again see her competitive given the manner of her last start victory.
