Our Outstanding Otaki Day
Te Akau Racing, Premiership leading trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards and our team continued on their impressive winning way today at Otaki.
Two dominant wins with It's Our Showtime winning by 3.75 lengths and Rocksun by over five!  Here is the first of the winning duo ...

Held in fairly high regard, Its Our Showtime (3 f Showcasing - Be Inspired, by Zabeel) scored with consummate ease after leading the Inpro Group Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 12 May at Otaki.

“She's a filly we've had a bit of time for but she hasn't had a lot of luck,” said Jamie Richards, who co-trains the filly with Stephen Autridge.

Having only her third start, and second up from a spell, Its Our Showtime began well for jockey Matt Cameron, strode along freely on the slow footing, and put a space on her rivals mid straight to win by a widening three and three-quarter-length margin.

Lightly framed, the athletic filly is owned by the Fortuna Its Our Showtime Syndicate (Mgr: John Galvin). She ran the 1200 metres in 1:13.7 and closed off second favourite to return $4.60 & $1.80 on the TAB tote.

“It was a nice win,” said Galvin.

“Spring 2014, I said to David Ellis that I'd like to syndicate another horse but there were no horse sales coming up and we should look to buy something privately.

“David put out his feelers and suggested we go and have a look at this filly, owned by James Chapman at Jamieson Park, and when we inspected her David said: ‘if you don't buy this filly, I will. She's a beauty'.”

“We've had a few wee setbacks with her that delayed getting her to the races. She was a bit green when making her debut, without a trial, last spring at Taupo, but still finished third.

“She's a filly that appreciates a bit of cut out of the track, so we've waited until the autumn to get her going and while she disappointed us somewhat when resuming at Avondale, there were excuses, and the team applied a nose band to prevent her over-racing and that made all the difference.

“There are a lot of regular owners amongst the thirty-two, but a number of first time owners as well.  She was beautifully ridden by Matt Cameron,” added Galvin.

Richards said: “She's a nice filly and it won't be the last time she salutes the judge”.

Jockey Matt Cameron said: “Last start I may have tried to ride too much of a race on her and she got pulling a little bit, but the nose band went on today. She jumped well, has always been a speedy filly and let cruise along, she was still a bit green, but she won quite nicely.

Its Our Showtime was strapped by Kerry Jones.
